Hello from Poland - apologise for my poor english!
Is there anyone who can confirmed existence of thirteenth episode of "Fawlty Towers"? I've found only short info on Internet about unbroadcasted episode called "The Robbers". Is there still in BBC archives?
All the best, Michael

I never saw ANY evidence of a 13th episode when I worked in the BBC VT Library !! And believe me, if I had, I would have busted a gut in trying to get a copy! I was lucky enough to go to three studio recordings in the second series too.......

The 'thirteenth episode' is much like the Loch Ness Monster... neither exist.

There's an episode of Not The Nine O Clock News that was broadcast on 30.10.79 (5 days after the last episode of Fawlty Towers). It starts with the Fawlty Towers intro (with the sign with the letters falling off, etc), cut to Basil in the hotel, the phone rings and he answers it, saying something to the effect of "No, sorry, we don't have an episode this week, instead here's this shoddy compilation." Then it goes into NTNOCN. Manuel appears near the end of the show too. Add this to the list of "Thirteenth Episodes"!

That is not missing footage, it is included on the DVD. But not Manuel's bit, at least, so I think. I never saw ANY evidence of a 13th episode when I worked in the BBC VT Library !! And believe me, if I had, I would have busted a gut in trying to get a copy! I was lucky enough to go to three studio recordings in the second series too....... By the way, what do you think of the current DVD release? Did it fail to include existing extras (like Blackadder, Young Ones, Monty Python etc.), or is it as complete as it can get?

As far as I know, there is NO studio recordings of 'Fawlty Towers' left, all were destroyed years ago. The 'deleted scenes' extras come from the 1979 Christmas Tape as compiled by VT engineers at the time, otherwise we wouldn't have ANYTHING!!

The thirteenth episode rumour comes from a book by Lars Holger Holm (Fawlty Towers--A Worshippers Companion). Allegedly, this was to be the first episode of the third series, scheduled to air on 9 Jan 1980. The "script" is presented in the book. There was no third series scheduled, of course and, based on the script, if there had been a new series, it would have shown a substantial decline in quality. Phrases from previous episodes crop up throughout.
Holm's script is a piece of fan fiction. The book is worth a read, though.
