I know this isn't technically missing, but I've often wondered why this particular series has never received any form of release. I've read that all 52 Episodes are still supposed to exist, if this is true do we know the reason why it has never received an official release ? It would be fantastic to see more of these.
Forgive my ignorance if this subject has already been discussed in the past.
Regards, Andy

There might be some rights issues with the estate of the original author.

I am sure it would fit nicely on BBC4 eh ? but there are vagaries to consider such as copyright on Simeon's books etc.. not saying that is the reason it's not screened anymore,,, but could be? The last time it was on TV was in the 1980s as a tribute to Simeon's death and a couple of episodes were shown then I think. before that it was rerun and rerun in the 60s, so it has had not really any time to sit neglected and deteriorate and IIRC looked good in the 1980s.

It would be fantastic to add it to the DVD collection.
With so many missing shows you sort of accept that you won't get to see them. But it's even more frustrating that you can't see something that does exist, especially when it's something as good as Maigret.
I've watched VHS recordings that my Grandfather made of the 4 Episodes that were repeated in the 80s and early 90s, the quality isn't great but I still thoroughly enjoyed them, Death in Mind being a favourite for the ending.
I've since read that it was only these following 4 episodes that were repeated after the 60s - Seven Little Crosses on 31/8/82, The Fontenay Murders on 21/11/82, Death in Mind on 24/9/89 and Maigret's Little Joke on 22/9/91. I know Pidax have released the complete series in very recent years but sadly it only has the dubbed German soundtrack and has the different opening/closing etc.

They have been released, in Germany. Only in this case, they did not include the original English audio...

Yes, Pidax have released the complete series in 4 sets I think, but they have different opening/closing themes and it's dubbed into German, so sadly it's about as much use as a chocolate fireguard to anyone that isn't fluent in the German language. Which is a shame as the picture quality looks very good indeed.
If the Beeb, or even Network were to release a UK version It could very well sell in respectable numbers. Network often release series in several sets, so you'd think they could release 1 set to test the water as it were.
Does anyone know where one can make enquiries regarding releases etc?

Well, to Network. It's a pity, at other times they DO include English audio. One or two have been known to do the rounds (in English). Not strictly legal, though. The BFI have five of them on viewing formats (and more in the vaults); depending on the reason, and providing you're in London, you could ask to see them.

Here's Hoping. I certainly hope they will get a release eventually, I'd hate to think they will just languish never to be seen again. I had hoped that with Pidax releasing them, albeit in German, that perhaps an English release would follow sometime in the near future.
It's a shame Pidax didnt include an English option as they did with the Inspector Wexford releases, with little from the TVS archive seeing the light of day I was surprised to see the early Wexford stories released by Pidax, and even happier when they contained the English audio.
Regarding episodes doing the rounds, I do have copies on VHS of the 4 Maigret episodes that were repeated in the 80s/90s.
I've never been to London, though should the opportunity ever arrive I guess I could chance my luck with the BFI, I didn't realise they had some on Viewing formats, thanks for that. I wonder if the BFI could be approached with regards to a release?
I'm still surprised the BBC hasn't tried to release them, perhaps they have already attempted though and not succeeded, who knows.

Well, you could ask, but I wouldn't hold my breath. For the BFI, you'd be well advised to book three weeks in advance if you ever want to give it a go. And there is a fee, it's not free, except for one, that appears to be on their computer network. Actually that one you might be able to see at one of their affiliates too. Currently available for viewing through the BFI are: The trap, Peter the Lett, The old lady, The golden fleece, and The winning ticket.

Well, you could ask, but I wouldn't hold my breath. As it turns out, you'd only need to have held it for a little over two years. Wonderful that it's being released in its entirety on Blu-ray on 23 Aug. networkonair.com/coming-soon/3321-maigret-the-complete-series-deluxe-limited-edition-blu-ray-

Indeed, absolutely fantastic that Network are releasing these, good ol Network. Fastest Pre-Order I've ever made.
