They've been fine with my stuff. I didn't actually want the VHSs back as they sent me DVDs of them anyway...

I'm planning to lend some tapes to Kaleidoscope to recover some missing BBC children's shows, news footage, continuity, adverts and the like. Has anyone had any experience of this? Are they good at getting the tapes back to you? I'm very happy to help, but I don't want to lose my tapes. It's probably just me being paranoid! With any arrangement of this kind, it would be wise to have something in writing that covers what the recipient will do to safeguard your property, when they expect to return it to you, also that they will pay the cost of doing so or make arrangements to hand it back in person. (Please note that I'm not having a go at Kaleidoscope!)

In general, KAL has limited resources, so please expect delays, but they do come through.

I got everything I gave them back, the Magpie episode, the Saturday Scene bits and bobs, the Young Ones promo, quite a bit else.

Sadly, an irreplaceable tape I entrusted to Chris Perry, who gave me every assurance it would be looked after with upmost care and transferred, was not only not transferred but lost and never returned. This after months and months being told all was fine but with increasingly far fetched stories about why it couldn't yet be returned.

I have had no dealings with nor any axe to grind with Kaleidoscope who I am sure many people have had satisfactory business with. However I recall one of Ronnie Gerrards CV2000 music tapes was dismissed by them as having an audio track only and he was subsequently able to capture video from another machine when he might have junked the tape(s) following their advice. Taking the above posts into account - and with the greatest of respect to KAL - I would not loan the original copy of anything valuable to them. I once loaned a VHS to ITV Sport who somehow managed to lose it. Ironically the tape had come directly from their archive some years earlier and their master had subsequently been lost so it seemed the right thing to do. Unfortunately, as in all walks of life, people do lose things when they shouldn't - these things happen.

What tape was it Ronnie?
