This footage turned up on Youtube a few weeks ago. According to many comments, it appears that it's fairly rare/previously unknown. Good performances, but the colours are really messed up. Anyone any idea what was going on here? Was this originally in colour? What is the reason for the messed up visuals? 3D experimentation even? www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgDHJ3YxyKEwww.youtube.com/watch?v=M_uwfyWCgFk

However by the time of this clip a new generation of reliable cameras were available and as the effect is seen across all the cameras seen here, this is probably just an effect to liven up and otherwise monochrome picture?

The broadcast was regular monochrome. Someone messed with those clips :-)

I would think that this is another case of "I have rare footage and I can't capitalize on this but I need to share it for ego so here it is, ruined" youtube is filled with watermarks these days.

This is from an episode of 'Hits A Go Go' that was first broadcast on 24th September 1969. Other highlights include 3 songs by The Hollies (Sorry Suzanne / He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother / Blowin' In The Wind) and a TOTP performance by Vanity Fare (Early In The Morning). I can also confirm that the recent rebroadcast was in black and white!
Does anyone here know which TOTP episode the Vanity Fare clip is from? They performed the song on the show on 10-07-69 (repeated 07-08-69) and 28-08-69.

i do not, but I am wondering what is the source of The Rolling Stones clip in that episode. it's not the same clip of Honky Tonk Women that was shown on Sounds of the 60s.....

I'm not sure (I suspect TOTP, 10th July 1969!), but here are The Rolling Stones, The Hollies and Vanity Fare:

I asked Keith Badman about the Rolling Stones clip, and he confirmed that it is DEFINITELY from the 10th July 1969 episode, as is the Vanity Fare clip.
The RS 'Honky Tonk Women' clip was TAPED on 3rd July 1969, just hours after Brian Jones died! So, historic stuff.

Here's a complete Hits A Gogo from c.December 1969 www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhXAIPgudBA which features a clean copy of Jethro Tull 'Sweet Dream' from TOTP, alongside an interview with Dave Clark which might have been on the set of the first colour TOTP (albeit here in black and white).
