Hello There,
It has been a while since I was on here. I was wondering if any fans who remember watching The Myth Makers yesteryear would share their memories of that serial. I have read the novel, listened to the audio and seen what little survives on 8mm. It appears to be a fine story. I don't recall this particular story being discussed in the short time I have viewed this forum.
Best Wishes Stephen

Yes, I would love to learn some more about The Myth Makers. It's my favorite Hartnell, but no one ever discusses it.

Stephen - if you haven't already seen the more recent of the two Loose Cannon reconstructions of The Myth Makers, I would thoroughly recommend it as the best available experience of this story :
I never saw the 60s original program so I can't comment on the recon's verisimilitude ( or lack of ) - but it is a superb recon; highly atmospheric & brilliantly put together with lovely clear photo images ( mainly composites ) & audio; I really felt I'd "seen" the story by the end ( as with all the best of the LC recons ). I haven't watched it for some years but IIRC it even includes a replica of the trojan horse prop. The painstaking hard work & creativity of the LC team really has produced a gem of beauty & quality.
As long as you don't mind what is, for the most part, a series of still images I would imagine you might find it very enjoyable indeed, if you have not yet happened to have viewed said recon.

I would second that. Like yourself I never saw the original (born more than a decade too late!), but thoroughly enjoyed that LC recon of the Myth Makers. I avoided the recons for a long time and that was the first that I actually watched. After watching it, I'd have to say it's one of my favourite Dr Who stories.

It used to be rumoured that a full size Trojan Horse was built for it, but I guess the model work was good, the surviving pictures seem to suggest that.

This has a very good recon. Earthbound Timelords has some nice background too. Strongly recommended.

The amount of people who remember these first hand are regrettably passing as do memories.
