I put the link over in the Morecambe and Wise thread in General. However, Doctor Who fans should know there is a connection. This reel was found by Morris in Jos.

So is this why it's been some years before another recovery annoucement? Are other Doctor Who episodes that didn't survive as well as EOTW & WOF being given this restoration treatment?

Well, we now know that it is possible. Maybe it explains Phil's upbeat tone and the rumours from a couple of the more reputable rumour-mongers.

This is great work and news, and i hope other material in a similar state will now be stored rather than binned, if it is missing, any recovered frames are of value, just as the censor clips have been.
It would be asking too much to see if the chroma dot info was also recovered by this method, even if the recovered frame/s were too far gone, it might prove useful in future methods

Very interesting! It has of course been known for some time that Phil found a M&W that was goo. At Starburst in Aug 2016 he also says "I'm quite confident that we'll find another copy of that episode to be honest." ... i.e. he doesn't expect that episode to stay "lost".
That makes me wonder whether he was already aware back then that it was likely retrievable from the goo.

The recovery of this M&W episode was announced years ago. Though it's generally been considered unrecoverable. Paul Vanezis discussed it in this forum in 2013, noting that it had been returned to the BBC in 2012. missingepisodes.proboards.com/post/146951/quote/12314So this predates the return of Web of Fear and Enemy of the World.

So heartening to hear PM say that more copies of certain missing episodes will be found. But that begs the question, with all the uncertainties and downright pessimism of the situation,he knows something about the situation that we don't?Is it something to do with the sheer size of the recovered cache that makes him so confident?Remember, this is the guy that thinks that against all the odds TP4 is 'still out there'!

We learnt a little while ago that PM first got into the store in Jos in late 2011 but then had to fight the red tape.

Just love that image of Jos in it's semi-rural setting.Makes the recovery even more poignant and incredible.
