hi
I've never really been a TOTP aficionado. Are there many missing 60s or 70s performances by key artists which are regarded as "holy grails" by their fans?

Isn't it the case that sometimes there still is a copy at the BBC but the VO announcements are missing?

Everyone has their personal list of dream recoveries. With me, I'd go for any performance of a song from the 60's/early 70's that isn't represented contemporaneously in any form, not just on TOTP. With The Kinks, Dedicated Follower of Fashion is a big one and I don't think any TV plug for Dead End Street exists too. As for the spectacle of a solidly psychedelic, underground act getting a TOTP airing in the height of the groovy cage dancers era, it's a pity that Fairfield Parlour's Bordeaux Rose is presumably lost to time.
Holy Grails have actually turned up previously. The most high profile one was probably David Bowie's Jean Genie performance, which was salivated over for years as it was a wholly live performance. It was sought after to the extent that when somebody swore across their heart that they'd seen a clip of it in an old 1980's episode of Pop Quiz, people on here were feverishly tracking and logging every available edition of that show in an attempt to confirm this alleged sighting. This was made to feel quaint rather quickly when, during an interview on Radio 2, ex-BBC cameraman John Henshall offhandedly mentioned his own broadcast quality copy of the performance in his personal archive. The rest is history.
My own personal holy grail actually turned up too. Mungo Jerry's In The Summertime, rediscovered on an episode of Hits a Go-Go in 2015. I was never expecting to see it, let alone in broadcast quality. The mind boggles.

It has to be a song that was a WORLDWIDE SMASH and not ONE clip survived from ANY TV station anywhere in the world. The Honeybus with 'I can't let Maggie go'. I still am not willing to believe there's no footage of this track or ANY Pete Dello footage at all in existence. Come on Missing Episodes people. This is out there!!
P.S.....there's so many others. No footage of 'Chinatown' by The Move.

The one that springs to mind for me is T.Rex "Ride A White Swan" with Marc resplendent in his Roman Centurion breastplate

For me it would have to be Slade with "Shape Of Things To Come", from 2 April 1970 (which also had Elton John's debut on the show, performing "Border Song").

Bowie Space Oddity 1969 for me. Yes it was a live acoustic version -shot in colour apparently, at the 'Late Night Line Up' studios (which was going out in colour) .. Another lost Bowie 'oddity' was the Laughing Gnome film which didn't have Bowie in it and was made by the same people who brought you the lovely donkey in the film for Dionne's 'do you know the way to San Jose' disc on totps...however various people have now said they have seen it somewhere. Also thought lost was the 'Drive in-Saturday' film for totps, featuring a young couple in sports car with a portable!! video camcorder...however this is also reported as seen now. Reported where Peter? Been trying to track this down for ages

Another on my wish list would be the David Essex "Gonna Make You A Star" 21st November 1974 TOTP appearance, when Paul McCartney and Wings who were on same show earlier with "Juniors farm" later joined David on the "I Don't Think?Fink? So" segment.
Any info anyone?
