I caught the end bit only, including the drippy Breakfast Time (or whatever it's called now ...) presenter saying something like "Surely we haven't lost any Dr Who"? It just goes to show that despite everyone on here assuming the whole world is aware of the hunt for missing episodes, especially Dr Who, there are still many that are not : including some that really should know better!

Thanks for the heads-up yesterday, Shelley - good to see some more discoveries. Surely though, Blondie performing "Rip Her To Shreds" isn't a very recent find? I'm fairly sure that the same clip was aired in C4's "The Way They Were" compilation of What's On / So It Goes material back in August 1986, or is this a new upgrade?

It doesn't look like a new upgrade judging from my recording of The Way They Were...I think the clip in that programme was broadcast using Tony Wilson's VHS recording (and from memory his recordings of Elvis Costello and Wreckless Eric - they had captions like "Damaged but invaluable" inserted as the clips started) and what's happened is that those VHSs have been recovered from Tony's collection but not the original broadcast tapes...

Thanks Phil.. so as I thought, not actually a new discovery/recovery.

The Blondie tape includes Debbie Harry talking to Tony WIlson beforehand. It is not held by ITV and hasn't been seen since it's original transmission. If you're a Blondie fan it's an important piece of Blondie history as it was Debbie's first time on UKTV.

That's right, Mike - I'd forgotten that bit was shown on BBC Breakfast when they were talking about the finds. I seem to remember reading that his friendliness with Debbie Harry on the broadcast caused a problem between him and his then wife!!
I'm wondering now whether the clip of Joy Division performing Shadowplay on Granada Reports that was used in the Grant Gee documentary also comes from Tony Wilson's archive given that it's much poorer quality than clips that have appeared in subsequent TV broadcasts but includes Wilson's full introduction.

Great news for you Geoff! its the November 1958 episode featuring John Barry Seven's final appearance performing 'Farrago' Yes, Paul, it's also the first TV appearance for three musicians who had just joined the band: Dougie Wright (drums), Dennis King (tenor sax) and Vic Flick (guitar). So looking forward to this, assuming I can get a ticket.
