"DISCOVERY 79: The Teletext Archive. After making contact with us via this Facebook page I am delighted to say that Jason Robertson and Kaleidoscope have established an archive of teletext pages. It will expand in the coming years as Jason captures the signal from all our tapes, aswell as others he sources. Jason says,” There are 61,827 pages, but some are junk pages that are due to noisy recordings. The earliest *full* service the Archive has is a BBC1 from 20th July 1979. The earliest ITV is from 25th July 1979. The Archive has earlier than that, but the originals were so noisy (the tape was a dub) that we have only a few pages. This is from 4th March 1976. The absolute earliest is an ITV from 18th February 1976 but there isn’t much usable in that at all. A page 100 only. The most remarkable page is a page describing how Ceefax deals with the switchover from old codes to the 1976 teletext standard. I guess this is a subjective thing though, I’m sure everyone reading this will have a favourite page depending on their interest. The 1976 ones are truly the most unique, but Kaleidoscope and Jason is always hoping to turn up more examples to make it *less* unique!” Can anyone help Jason with off-air tapes from the mid-1970s? Jason Robertson will be talking about his project at MBW Central this weekend."

Would be great to see some of these, a real snapshot of the past! Is there more of a chance of these being made freely available as opposed to normal episodes?
Did they all come from VHS tapes? I'm not sure when VHS launched in the UK, I thought it was 1978. I've got a few recordings from 1978 which is the only reason that makes me think that!
