Did anyone watch this last night? I missed it and haven't checked it out on i-Player yet but the tracklisting doesn't look too exciting. Any comments? www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b041z245

It was a load of dross, recorded it on my Panasonic last night, watched it, and wiped it.

Just as I feared, Nic.. wonder who chose the scintillating lineup? The term 'missed opportunity' springs to mind!

What kind of programs were the clips taken from?
I'm assuming Whistle Test and Colour Me Pop.

It's not a new programme - it was first shown a couple of years ago.
The worst thing about it was that many of the clips weren't shown in full but it was good to see part of the Tony Wilson/Stephen Morris (Joy Division) interview from 'Something Else' that probably hasn't be broadcast since the original transmission.

I quite enjoyed it. The short clips meant that if it was a song you weren't keen on there wasn't enough time to get bored. Also the programme didn't present the clips in chronological order which also was a refreshing change from how that type of show is usually done. You have to remember though that the programme was made for the general public as a whole and not a minority of obsessives!

Also, a reminder of all the wonderfuk music shows that BBC2 have hosted (and closed) over the years.
It's basically "Later w/Jools" and the Glastonbury coverage only now? Oh, they had a couple of cameras out for Reading Festival, didn't they?
Anyway, the prog was a good taster for stuff you might find interesting, and full versions on Youtube if you want more.

Really makes you feel sad that there is very little outlet for up and coming artists to show off their talents. Would really love to see a show about the current music scene in the UK and show people its not just all Adele and Coldplay but alot of artists who dont need to be 'celebs' to make good music

I agree, Joe. Thankfully we have "Later with Jools Holland", which does give a chance to see new and upcoming artists. Over the 23 or so years that it's been onscreen, Later has often had debut UK TV appearances from those such as the White Stripes, Arctic Monkeys, KT Tunstall and countless others. In more recent years it's where I first came across Dead Weather, Everything Everything, the Maccabees, Disclosure, St. Vincent, Royal Blood, Slaves, Savages.. the list goes on. It's just a shame there aren't more programmes like that on the BBC.

Something with the same sort of structure as OGWT would fit the bill. I sadly can't see it happening though.

Marc Riley's All Shook Up was pretty much trying to fill that gap. I don't think it's going to get commissioned - and hence will never make it onto real TV - but the four episodes will be on the iPlayer for a while.
