Thanks for that very useful reference. I got the date wrong for the 'Luv' ice lolly then. After '72 we should note appearances for 'LIFT OFF' and TOTP for 'Jean Genie' the latter having been now recovered.
The Mick Rock promo for 'John I'm only dancing ('72); apparently was vetoed originally by the BBC for TOTP and a film with Bikers substituted, which exists. But I recall the Mick Rock promo definitely being shown once, though think the song was only about briefly prior to 'Jean Genie'. I don't really recall that studio appearance; I recall the Mick Rock promo. I do recall 'Drive in Saturday' on TOTP but seem to think it was on it after the Russell Harty interview (most of which exists).
For 'Life on Mars' I recall a different film from the recently found TOTP insert, featuring nuclear bomb tests and footage of an Apollo take off. The one found utilises similar footage to a 'Nationwide' feature at the time (insert exists for that). The Mick Rock promo was also shown in the overlap to 'Pin ups', I recognised it when I saw it again. We know U.S. show footage was shown for 'rebel rebel' on TOTP; but what of 'Sorrow'?
I've seen a VT take of the song which looks like a French show from the time but don't know if that appeared on British screens.

Does anyone remember a Bowie promo where he's seeing Angie off on a train? I'm 99% sure it was on TOTP more than once. Could have been a promo with look alike actors? Though it's quite possible that the memory cheats and it was something else completely.

I remember TOTP made film which I am pretty sure was for a bowie track (Drive In Saturday?) which featured someone driving/in a convertible car with a video screen on the dashboard and jumping out. Remembered because I had never seen anything like a video screen/TV in a car. I think the rest of it involved the young guy /driver meeting a woman. Any of this sound familiar?

Looking out to sea?

Yes, that sounds like it, parked overlooking sea or beach

Do you know what it was? Found this comment about same film on previous thread
"Rather ironically it also featured the couple shooting themselves on video with a then portable[sic] video tape recorder pack and camera"

Ah well.

I'll see what I can do for that. I recall another friend was working compiling a list of TOTP broadcast output and TOTP films. Documentation should carry descriptions. Source possibly Caversham written archives. Don't see them much but I may be able to look through his notes and find out what went out for 'Drive in Saturday' and for my other thread query on 'walk on the wild side' (Lou Reed).
I just thought of that today but will have to arrange to see them before I can confirm.

That 'disturbing' film "The Image" was issued by the NME in the eighties on a VHS called "Video Bongo", it shouldn't be too difficult to find.

A friend who researched TOTP has now dug out the paperwork relevant to that period. Two weeks after 'walk on the wild side' (Lou Reed); was on, a film credited to Bruce Mallard for 'Drive in Saturday' appeared. This could well be the one Stephen Connett came forward about earlier in the thread.
Thanks again to Stephen as no description of the visuals seems to be included in the documentation studied, I can find out the source of the records if of interest.

Thanks John Stewart for letting me know I wasn't going mad. Be really great to some details to fill in the gaps and maybe even track it down some day to view if still exists? There are so many clips promo's and shows that, although only seen once, stick in the mind.

I can add the following details to the list now. The first entry is from a list of Bowie dates on a website; it's not clear if this was actually just an audition for the show and the band were turned down or actually made it to the recording.
1964 - OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS David Bowie and the mannish boys
The following originate from sleeve notes for the 'David Bowie' Deram LP special edition -
8 Nov 1967 - 'Fan club' (Dutch TV). 'Love you till Tuesday'.
27 Feb 1968 - 'Music fur Junge Leute' (German TV) Love you till Tuesday; Did you ever have a dream; Please Mr Gravedigger. (The latter is a mime like 'the Mask').
Be surprised if these appearances have been lost.
