I could be wrong, but I think this footage contains a hitherto unknown performance by Pink Floyd at their 1967 height: www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTzycbTsqPsAM I wrong? I also have a strong hunch the footage emanates from Donovan Winter's seldom seen 'Promenade' starring Kate O'Mara.

Great find, shame Floyd were only in the background

Some of you might like to see the sequence in the wider context of the film - an 8:38 mute section anyway: www.youtube.com/watch?t=21&v=LrIrEv78Bo8The negative resides with the BFI. Donovan Winter told me he didn't have a copy in 2009.

Can now confirm the date was 15/04/1967. Austin Parkinson, who worked on the whole production, has just sent me the following recollection:
"I remember shooting at a disco next to the Metropole Hotel, it was to the left of the hotel in a small street that leads into Regency Square. I also remember shooting on West Pier when Pink Floyd were giving a performance and the pier was shaking badly as we were shooting a Kinetic light show which I noticed was in that clip you sent me.
And in that clip we can see the MG sports car arriving at the Metropole. Kate O'Mara was to drive the car but Donovan discovered she could not drive, but he made her drive it.
Never a dull moment filming with Donovan!"

That's the one, William. Someone now needs to get down to the BFI pronto and view their VHS holding. If I were in town I would do so myself. collections-search.bfi.org.uk/web/Details/ChoiceFilmWorks/150031037As per usual the BFI are ignoring my emails, so I can't update you on the chances of a future release or on the status of their film materials.

A quick update:
1) I received word from editor Howard Lanning this afternoon. He had no memory of the sequence in question and sounded quite taken aback by the attention the film is suddenly receiving.
2) Marc Morris owns the rights to many of Donovan Winter's films. He told me yesterday that 'Promenade' was one they were unable to track down before the filmmaker's untimely death earlier this year. He added that he is in touch with his lawyer to find out who owns the remainder of Donovan's films.
3) Someone needs to arrange a viewing of the BFI's VHS copy. The group may have made further contributions for all anybody knows. And who is to say their K4 sequence doesn't continue beyond the Huntley clip? Any volunteers?

Received word from Joe Boyd today. He says it sounds like Pink Floyd, but that he's not 100% certain.
Any takers on the BFI viewing?

Happy to report Liam Joseph has kindly offered his services as regards the VHS viewing. The three key questions I am hoping he will be able to answer are:
1) Are the group credited?
2) Does the K4 sequence continue beyond the Huntley clip?
3) Is any of their music used elsewhere? The longer Huntley clip includes a brief psychedelic interlude in keeping with Kate O'Mara's memory of the film, so it's something that couldn't be ruled out

No problem Peter. It'll be a couple of weeks (July 24-25) before I'm down in London, so if anyone can get along to the BFI before then feel free to beat me to it!

I've just heard back from the BFI about a viewing of Promenade, and unfortunately they can't offer one for the dates I am down in London (July 24-25) due to "staffing levels". They did suggest some alternative dates (which frustratingly I can't make either) as follows:
"We can currently offer a viewing on 28th, 29th, 30th or 31st July, or 3rd or 4th August at our Stephen Street office, which is just off Tottenham Court Road. The tape has a runtime of approx. 40 minutes."
It costs £11 an hour to view a VHS tape and viewings are from 10.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday. Is anyone else available (and interested enough) to make one of the above dates, or arrange one in the near future? Sorry Peter, I did my best! I'll probably be back in London before the end of the year but not sure when this will be yet.

Anyone else fancy a voyage of discovery on one of the above dates?
