Just having a clearout of some old cassettes and I found a Radio 1 programme from 31 May 1987 titled "A Splendid Time Was Guaranteed For All", which marked the 20th anniversary of the release of Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band LP. I would imagine that it is circulating amongst collectors so should I have no concerns about binning it? The scary thing for me is that more years have elapsed since this show was broadcast than had gone after the LP came out. No wonder I feel old..

I've still got a copy of this on a TDK D90 cassette thanks Chris - I would think that most (if not the majority) of radio specials like this are still kept by the BBC anyway and were probably recorded by listeners in their thousands, so I will continue de-cluttering with no guilt! There goes the Nick Drake Radio 4 doc, Small Faces' Ogden's Nutgone Flake Classic albums show, the Bonzo's "Return To Jollity Farm", etc. (sounds of various C90s clattering into the waste bin)..

The scary thing for me is that more years have elapsed since this show was broadcast than had gone after the LP came out. No wonder I feel old.. Similarly, I recently heard Eric B & Rakim's hit single 'Paid In Full' (from 1987). I liked it, it seemed innovative, and I bought it at the time. It has the well-known voiceover "This is a Journey into Sound" from the 1958 Decca stereo sampler LP.
29 years had passed since this relic sample had been recorded. And now another 28 years have passed since then....
