A mention of Jimmy Savile was on the one shown 2-3 weeks ago.
Maybe it was an edit to cut out a tape fault or something.

It didn't look that suspicious to me. It doesn't sound like he's on the verge of naming the second gunman on the grassy knoll. It sounds like he's on the verge of saying 'The Tourists' when it cuts out. Probably just a clumsy edit.

He was just being 'Peter Powell' and letting the camera introduce the clip.

Hadn't occurred to me that it could be anything as corny as that, but I suspect you're right Paul.

Surprised to see that Peter Gabriel's "Games Without Frontiers" was severely truncated this week - shorn to just 1 min 10 seconds. Anyone know why? Did footage of Stuart Hall have to be removed?

As per original broadcast - strangely a 40 minute show with a 35 minute slot in the Radio Times - so, again, nothing untoward. The original broadcasts of all the 80s are all in circulation, so there really is no need for conspiracy theories, the 'evidence' of what was and wasn't done is 'out there'. We got 2 mins 30 on 28/2/80 broadcast of 'Games' last week. Bear in mind that the PG video, the Marti Webb repeat performance & the link inserted in between will all have been stitched into the show at the final edit, and there may well have been negative feedback to it's first broadcast in 1980 (it is a tad dark) plus timing issues. Surprised to see that Peter Gabriel's "Games Without Frontiers" was severely truncated this week - shorn to just 1 min 10 seconds. Anyone know why? Did footage of Stuart Hall have to be removed?

Well, far be it from me to cite "conspiracy" but it has happened: When Elvis Costello sang of "silly men" as opposed to "stupid fools" on Radio Radio on his TOTP performance, Tony Blackburn replied "Well, you can't take things too personally" or something similar. But that didn't make it to the broadcasts 2 years ago.

But that didn't make it to the broadcasts 2 years ago. Yes - and, due to a domestic recording of that show made at the time, that is indeed the case. The copy of 26/10/78 in the BBC archive has 15 seconds crudely spliced, including the last 10 seconds of Radio Radio. The BBC copy cuts back in as Blackburn is introducing Chris Rea, but with pronounced tape roll on that link - explaining why the UK Gold broadcast in 1993 & the BBC Four repeat 20 years later were edited. There may well be a 'conspiracy' there (Blackburn's next show was his last as 'regular' TOTP host) - but thanks to Ken Holmes' domestic recording we know what was actually broadcast
