I can just imagine what the BBC will do if episode 1 of "Power of the Gargleblaster" is ever recovered. Eh? What's the joke?

John was paid a fee for his recon work. He offered to deliver a much superior product at no additional cost to the BBC. The BBC declined it and went with an inferior product (the recon) for the same money that would have bought them a much better received recon. This is my only issue with the DVD. Still there are other recons available online if you care to look and no doubt a high quality fan animation like with The Web of Fear 3 is only a matter of time. . . . Yes, I agree that is frustrating, but it still doesn't justify anyone describing the release as "shoddy".

The joke was in years past "Gargleblasters" was used by the Restoration Team as a joke when some one would ask if (story 9X was going t be released soon as they could not say per contract). The point I make now using "Gargleblasters" instead of naming an actual episode is to avoid starting any rumors. But the point still stands if the BBC ever recovers episode 1 of (insert story title here) and no other episodes exist what are they going to do to release it?

Ian needs to direct his feelings to BBC DVD and those now in charge of releasing stuff now that Dan Hall is no longer in the picture to to ensure that this time of administrative cock up never happens again.

Well, I've just watched the whole thing all the way through and I really enjoyed it.
It was a pity about the recons, however it was nice to see the stills in such good quality, and as a fan, once I got used to how the recon is presented, I had no problem with it.
(mind you, I know the story pretty much by heart anyway)
The documentary was good apart from the silly fish person wandering around the place, and all the negativity. I really don't understand why people have such a downer on this story. I think if it had been part 2 that we'd had all this time instead of part 3 it would have had a totally different reputation.

I'd say that describing the release as "shoddy" was grossly insulting to the people who worked bloody hard on the many superb extras that are on the DVD. I suspect you would find that Ian is referring to the telesnap recons as shoddy, rather than the release as a whole.

My personal thoughts is that that the portion produced by the Dan hall era was excellent and is a very fine dvd. The administration of the parts from bbcww i felt were lacking.
This is not a refection on John Kelly who did an amazing job given the constraints. Rather the concern is that the direction of bbcww regarding their input to the project. I will not say it was a disappointment because I shared in the past that the glory days of Dr who dvds is over. Just that I was suprised that even little simple things that could have made the dvd better they deliberately declined.
I am glad that this dvd was released and that we are seeing these extras as well as restored episodes. However I'm not optimistic for the future of Dr who dvds going forward.

Well he was certainly colorful in that thread on his face book page. Still I would love to know who is pulling the strings at BBC World Wide in regards to this DVD myself ?

Why was UM2 never released on itunes in the way that WOF or EOTW were? Was it a clearance issue ie copyright or just the low regard for the story?Or too incomplete?
I still think that itunes will be the BBC's digital platform of choice when more recoveries are announced.Seems inevitable. In every sense...
