This seems to have passed us by but David Frost's estate has signed a deal with a US company called Reelin' In The Years to licence footage from the David Frost estate. A major videotape digitisation process has begun in the US, involving 2" and 1" tape among other formats. An inventory is still being compiled but there have been some hints that the collection may contain lost footage. For those of you on Facebook, you can see an image gallery of some of the content already transfered here. Meanwhile, the announcement (which is extremely brief) can be seen here.

It should work now - some gremlins crept in when I was placing the link on the forum.

That's a very interesting announcement, Ken. Thanks for sharing. Reeling In The Years are quite a prominent distributor of footage and they previously released the "British Invasion" series of pop DVD releases. They seem to distribute large amounts of archive television footage (including the colour versions of Rediffusion's Hippodrome Show). It will be interesting to see what's in the Frost archive but I'd be very surprised if it didn't include at least bits of his Rediffusion work. I await further news on this one with baited breath..!

Will be very interesting to see what comes out of this The Paley Centre certainly seem to have a lot of Frost material Interesting stuff. From the description, the 1948 Show edition is series 1 / episode 6, which already exists (although you never know if this might be a better copy than the one at the BFI). I assume the Stage '67 is an American ABC programme, being in colour (?). Still very interesting content and contributors though. I second the request for being kept up to date on the Frost archive as and when details emerge.

Following on from that, I'm curious as to why Paley might have a copy of 1948 Show, which I'm assuming wasn't screened in the U.S. at the time (?). So presumably it's a copy obtained later, in light of Python's success there. If the recording has been sitting there longer though, it begs the question: are any more in the same place?

John Green and myself have had a good old look in there!

They were well stocked with Python & pre-python shows long before any of the latter made it to DVD. They also have some CUHB and DNAYS.

Nothing missing though, I take it? I'd like to see the second series of DNAYS turn up too!

I think this could be quite a significant haul! Wouldn't it be great if all of 1948 suddenly turned up in 405-line VT splendour? Or even a 525 conversion would be pretty miraculous.
