Looks like it was a 25 minute programme in the ITV children's slot. From The Times TV listing:
Wednesday, Oct 14, 1981 4.20 - Country Camera - The first of seven programmes featuring 18-year-old wildlife cameraman Simon King.
It was shown in all regions but I can't tell from The Times who made it. update: Strangely it doesn't seem to be included in the otherwise extensive list of work on Simon King's website: www.simonkingwildlife.com/page/tv-film#eightyone~iw

Thanks,Ian.That gives us something to work on! John and Ian Country Camera was made by Westward Television. Series of programmes on rural life and wildlife, cameraman Simon King, filmed by the eighteen year old Simon King. The Producer and Director was John King. No film or video is held at the bfi, but they have a filmograhic record for the first episode 14/10/81. Simon King has a youtube placement called Simon King Wildlife which has 116 videos...if anyone would like to check to see if there is any from Country Camera.

Mating badgers and cooling with wild garlic I can see (though not both together).Nothing about the earlier series unless I missed it.I suppose someone could ask him directly? I'm not very good at that sort of thing myself, worse luck.
