A mention of a band that appeared on the show The Red Hawks Originally a skiffle band formed in 1958 called 'The Hawks', they won the Scottish Skiffle Championships in Stirling in 1959, beating 48 other bands and in that same year they appeared twice weekly for three months on the STV television series "Dance Party Roof". They soon moved with the times to become predominantly a soul / showband playing chart covers. They have also appeared on a BBC TV variety show and had a fan club with more than a thousand members! www.kinemagigz.com/'r'.htm Article on launch of STV www.heraldscotland.com/sport/spl/aberdeen/everyone-s-aunt-sally-1.382106Also out of drama school, an unknown Andy Stewart presented Dance Party Roof, a showcase for early rock'n'roll groups.

Yes what Jeff says about Andy Stewart, seems to tie in with the following.. Andy B Stewart singer/comedian rose to fame initially as the presenter of Dance Roof Party, which was shown on Scottish Television. He subsequently became a national figure as a member of the cast of The White Heather Club, a long running BBC television show, eventually becoming the compere. The White Heather Club began 7 May 1958. Scottish Television opening night was 31 August 1957, so Stewart as presenter of Dance Roof Party must have been between September 1957 - end of April 1958. Whether Dance Roof Party continued with another presenter after April 1958, needs further research by others, perhaps Jeff or William

Just to check the record Straight: www.andystewart.info/early/index.shtml ( people might find alot of interesting links on that page! In 1958 Andy took over as host of Scottish Television's Dance Party Roof (a "popular music" show) following in the footsteps of the original presenter Rikki Fulton, who had left to fulfil theatre commitments with Stanley Baxter in the Glasgow Alhambra Five Past Eight Show, a popular series of revue shows boasting elaborate scenery and costumes and featuring the biggest names in Scottish performers.

Was it renamed: Monday Dance party / Friday Dance party or even Dance party? Andy Stewart never become the host of White Heather Club until 1959.

Well here we are 3 yrs on!.....anyway came across this wee bit of info today at the library from the Scottish Daily Express newspaper dated 8/3/58
24 yr old Joe Gordon walked out of the show (he had been a twice a week regular) he said..." I'm fed up thump-thumping out that sort of stuff, skiffle used to be a novelty, now everyone's doing it. i'm getting out of the rut, I want to do something worthwhile"
STV offered a 3 month contract to keep him but he still left. No sign of your question regarding the presenter, but I will keep looking.
He seemingly has his own band imaginatively named "The Joe Gordon Folk Four"
The Scottish Daily Record newspaper dated 15/3/58 mentioned that weekly Jive sessions were starting the next again Monday.

I came across these titles today at the library looking at the Scottish Daily Express from 1958. For instance Dance Party Feb 17th 1958 6;10pm to 6:40pm also Friday Dance Party 28th Feb 1958 (strange?)
