At last! I think I have traced the programme containing the Evil clip with the final Dalek battle. Using BBC Genome (as mentioned on page 168 of this week's Radio Times) I have succeeded in finding a close match. Looking at listings for: BBC 1 Friday 17th May 1968 starting at 18.40 A Spoonful of Sugar from Stannington, Children's Hospital, Morpeth What would you like to see.....? Whom would you like to meet......? Where would you like to go.....? Keith Macklin and Sheila Tracy talk to some of the children and spring some surprises
This ties in very closely with my memories. Rolf Harris was a surprise, uncredited guest who asked a young boy patient, what would you like to see? He chooses the final Dalek battle which was then shown. Rolf concluded by saying viewers could watch the whole serial when it would be repeated in a few weeks time (Evil was repeated on Sat. 8 June 1968). Rolf then went on to host a similar programme on 25 Dec 1969, 1970 and 1971. (Rolf invites you to Meet the Kids)
For me I have closed the loop that has been nagging at me for many years. BBC Genome is not yet complete but I would strongly recommend it to members of this site or any one looking for missing episodes as the aim is to print Radio Times listings from 1923 to the present day. Genome.ch.bbc.co.uk

I e-mailed and asked Chris Perry of Kaleidoscope about the status / survival of this programme and unfortunately this is yet another missing show so we will probably never know for sure if it was the show you remember or not. Such a shame it would have been wonderful to have seen the Evil of the Daleks footage you mentioned.

John, next time I'm at Caversham, I'll pull the PasB for this one, which should list what the programme contained.

How strange. How very, very strange. Sorry I missed your posting about Caversham. Sometimes I only rapidly scan these threads. My memory of Rolf, a lad in a hospital bed, a few weeks before the Evil repeat, and the clip of the battle being shown are very clear. I have only worked out it was Meet the Kids but even that I'm pretty certain about. Does anyone have access to the Radio Times from that era? Yes! Here are all the listings for 'Meet the Kids' - genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/search/0/20?order=asc&q=%22Meet+the+Kids%22Leslie Crowther presented it until 1967. Rolf didn't do it until Christmas 1969. Here are the full listings for 'Spoonful of Sugar', which had a heap of episodes in both 1967 and 1968, not just the one you specified - genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/search/0/20?q=%22Spoonful+of+Sugar%22&order=asc

Many many thanks for that, Ed. I now think the Spoonful of Sugar from May 1968 is probably the show I remember with the Evil of the Daleks clip. Your searches demonstrate the power of BBC Genome.

I can only recall Rolf Harris on what I thought was 'meet the kids' on Xmas morning c. 68-69 and 'Disney time'. In the latter he did show clips but of Disney films. I don't recall any clips as such being shown on the Xmas shows but the show acted as a live link between Xmas morning programmes, films etc.
'Junior points of view' definitely showed the bits of Dr Who viewers would like to see again. It was the early evening version of the adult counterpoint beginning in 1966, and 'Ask Aspel' followed on in a similar style. I can't be of much help with that as all I recall was Aspel repeating a clip of 'Oh Brother' where Derek Nimmo finds a baby in a pram; the Wuthering heights in semaphore sketch from Monty Python;a sketch from 'Marty' where the royal family are speeded up so they look like they're racing at Ascot; and a show in which Jack Wild was the guest in Beatles boots & a ruffled white shirt sitting cross legged on a swivel chair.

Just to resurrect a very old thread, but I've now been able to confirm the programme in question.
It was indeed 'A Spoonful of Sugar' from Friday 17 May 1968, transmitted at 18:41:12. The programme didn't have anything to do with Rolf Harris or Bob Monkhouse as suggested (neither of which were guests), but was presented by Keith Macklin and Sheila Tracy. It's likely that the clip was shown as part of a 6'50" interview entitled 'How Explosions Were Done on Television'. The PasB indicates that 59-feet of silent 16mm footage was shown (about 38 seconds worth), simply marked as "Excerpt from Dr.Who".
The programme doesn't exist in the BBC archive.

Oh that is tantalizing! Nice work researching this.

Brilliant! You have got it spot on here. This ties in with my memories of this repeat clip exactly. Well done. Probably still doesn't help us recover the clip but at least you've restored my faith in my memory. Thanks and speak for the delay in replying
