One vivid memory I have of mid-70s TV was a piece on Nationwide about a stage version of Phantom of the Opera, starring Edward Petherbridge as the Phantom. The piece ended with the Phantom (Petherbridge) being unmasked, revealing his scarred makeup for the role. As I recall the interview was done live in the studio. This piece resulted in a lot of complaints to the BBC apparently and the event was mentioned in a contemporary review of the play in World of Horror magazine. Having done some searching on Nationwide on the boards, it seems that they weren't recorded for the most part, so it is extremely unlikely this item was ever preserved in the first place. Can anyone confirm, or do they recall seeing the interview themselves? These are the details of the production itself: edwardpetherbridgefansite.yolasite.com/1975---the-phantom-of-the-opera.php

Thanks for that. I see a few were recorded off-air as well. I have no idea which edition it was, but one can hope it survives somewhere although it may be unlikely.
