Surely the Errol Flynn's can be released now? Oddly,the Paint Along With Nancy (Kominsky) stands out for me! And the WWI veterans' interviews...
Sounds of Britain seems a bit confused; 9/2/1979 is Winter in Scotland (?) on Lostshows,while 8/6/79 seems to exist.

Unfortunately, it is unlikely that the Errol Flynn's will see the light of day - the copyright holders have proven untraceable and the prints' legal position is unclear. In addition, UTV doesn't have a partnership with any of the releasing companies.

In terms of Sounds of Britain, the transmission dates which have been utilised are those from the London region. All three programmes are UTV productions.

I've just realised that I haven't provided some necessary context for some of the material. From a NI/UK television perspective, the most significant items are:

ROUNDABOUT (25/06/66) - Roundabout was the UK's first daily regional magazine series, spawning countless descendants, some of which are still being produced elsewhere in the UK. It was also UTV's first local series. It was literally a discovery that nobody expected as all episodes were thought to have been broadcast live and not recorded. This one survived because it had been filmed on-location at the 99th Balmoral Agricultural Show. Those at Kaleidoscope's 25th anniversary event got an advance look.

THE YOUNG CITIZENS' CLUB (28/09/65) - This was Northern Ireland's first local schools TV series and the episode found was obviously very significant as being the first episode, it is Northern Ireland's first local schools TV broadcast.

THE SCANDALOUS PARSON (22/11/67) - Northern Ireland's earliest surviving TV play (by roughly a decade) and one whose production had never previously been documented. Another programme screened at Kaleidoscope's 25th anniversary event.

THIS AND THAT (25/09/63) - Roger Whittaker's first solo television show. This pilot was picked up for a series of the same name which was screened throughout Britain, setting him on the path to worldwide record sales of 50 million copies.

THIS ISLAND ABOUT US (11 episodes) - Northern Ireland's first cross-border schools series and the series with an astonishing recovery ratio. From having none of the 16 episodes made, UTV now has eleven plus a third of a 12th. All were found on Philips VCR cassette, with one exception, and restored to an extremely high standard by Rory Clark.

It's a far less interesting story than that: a huge number of film inserts from 1960s UTV series came to light during the research. At least one clip surfaced from each major UTV series - even Romper Room. For some major series, inserts survive from every episode. As a result, the overall total added up quickly.
