Finally some missing footage of the Beatles! But don't get too excited.... I have found on youtube the performance from "Scene at 630" 14/10/1964 show....the 1963 is well-known, archived and on the collectors scene, this isn't....but there are some drawbacks.... This has actually been around for a year or so, but I have established the date of broadcast, and is a performance of I Should Have Known Better'. It is to be control room footage, nonetheless TIMECODED. It may have been shot on a home movie camera and transferred nonetheless. Very strange! TV employees get in the way of the camera and the thing is not great quality. Also, the poster has dubbed a BBC version of the song to the film, for some reason. If the audio was originally silent (my guess), the could have dubbed the mono remaster, which is what the Beatles would have actually been miming to! So, before you watch, remember....it's probably filmed on a home movie camera, studio workers get in the way of shots and the sound is dubbed (very slightly out of sync) and quality is pretty poor.... But if you haven't seen it here it is:- www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9iNQnQfl24www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8sZ2aexI2gFor those interested I have also found about ten seconds of unreleased 'Let it Be' footage of Billy Preston shot January 1969.

The small bit of unreleased footage (Billy Preston only) from the Let It Be film is here:- www.amazon.com/gp/mpd/permalink/mGQKH182H6RAK/ref=ent_fb_link from around 3.06 to 3.14. There are quick clips from the Johnny Carson Show and rare Badfinger and Mary Hopkin footage too, although these are in circulation.

Update.
Excerpts were first screened back in December 1979. It is that missing October 1964 show. It was filmed offcially for a "day in the life of The Beatles at Granada TV's studios' by a Granada TV cameraman. The uncut footage runs for approximately 23 minutes. This clip appeared on a bootleg DVD 3 years and made it's youtube debut last year. Nevertheless, it is rare, and I am not entirely sure whether Granada have it. Why would they keep control room footage, and not the show?

Why would they keep control room footage, and not the show? That's the "logic" of archives for you! I've seen this footage before and presumably it exists at Granada / ITV as it's time-coded in the way it is. A fascinating clip providing a tantalising glimpse of something special that's gone. If only UK archives had the foresight of European ones of that time when it came to pop TV.

It is quite feasible for someone to restore this performance. It would take a LONG time, and would be similar to the original broadcast but not exactly the same.
1) restore the original mono soundtrack and correct synching difficulties. 2) enlarge and improve the quality of the monitor footage (one may have to drop some bits in....)
Nonetheless, entirely possible, and a suggestion....if any restoration buffs are about....

If only all those cameras had been iso-recorded. Just think of the fun we could have now re-editing the pictures..............

True. Still it's nice footage to see, and it's certainly possible for people to upgrade the quality. (hint!)

Maybe it's the echoey sound quality of the recording but it sounded like a slightly different performance to the record. The lead vocal intonation in particular seemed subtly different. Or is it just me?

It's not just you!
Right - I need to clarify here. The poster appears to have dubbed a BBC Radio recording - yes, you read that correctly - onto the audio. That's what he said in one of the entries.
God knows why. The Beatles would have mimed to the original mono version (NOT stereo) of the record. The did this for the vast vast majority of their TV appearance where they are not playing live, and for most 'promos' too.
So the only reason I can fathom that the poster dubbed a completely different version of the track was he wanted to entice more people into watching the footage.
So you have here a handheld camera recording that (probably) is in the archives of a MISSING TV episode that ISN'T in the archives (ITV), with a overdubbed soundtrack of RADIO recording from the BBC!!!!!!!!
There is NO logic to any of this - the wiping or the overdubbing. Sigh............still, small mercies....

Well they were going to sing I should of Known better and seeing the BBC version is the only known live version, it kinda makes sense to use that to overdub

I have all 23 minutes on DVD without Time Code. My version is a DVD copy of a PAL VHS Tape that came directly from Granada. I Don't own the Original Tape, but a friend of mine does and it DOES NOT have time code. The version that is posted on youtube came from a DVD that came out about 3 years and for some reason has a big ugly time code on it. Thought I would share that information with you. Best Regard

Thanks Robert. Trevor is correct Joe - they would have mimed to the commercial version and would not be playing live here (students of miming please note, this would have been before the UK TV lip-synch ban, which came in 1966!).
It looks like Granada have it in the archives after all, then. Still, good to see.

Yes true but a bootlegger has over dubbed the audio. Most likely because the track found on the album is official and wont be allowed on many sites
