Hi Tim
The most intriguing item in the list for me is
6.30 TOTPVL – compilation of Top of the Pops highlights recovered from the PVL archive by Brett Leslie.
Whats the story behind this ? Could you give any more info on the clips - I thought there was some
controversy about the PVL.

It's also great to see the rest of the Pan's People 'vicar' tape and Mary Hopkin 'In the Land of....' (my suggestion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ). Also a public thank you to Brett Leslie for whatever he has found/acquired/provided from the PVL archive to Kal.

I'll add some details of the groups to the line-up once the compilation has been edited, as I'd hate to promise something and then have to withdraw certain performances due to editing constraints.

Thanks Tim for the response - I look forward to your update
Also the Kenny Everett "Ev" compilation is something I've wanted to see for a long time
Looks like a great day of viewing !

Though I understand this event is free, I was wondering if anyone could advise if there is any kind of booking system to ensure your place at a screening, or if you would be okay just to turn up on the day?

The events are normally busy, but every year there has been enough room. My advice though is get there before 12. (Please note, this is the opinion of an audience member, I am not a member of Kaleidoscope.)

The events are always well attended but I couldn't imagine a situation where anyone is turned away. There should be enough room for all, although - as Ray says - getting there early will ensure a seat.

Unless you're me. I tend to mill around (QUIETLY), network (i.e, socialize in th bar/outside) or bop around at the side, lip-synching!!!! Do say hi if you see me.
Laurence is absolutely right, though, should be enough room.

Yet again a stellar line-up,congrats to all who have put this together, but again i'm not in a position to attend this event. Someday i hope that another way can be found for the masses to view this recovered material. Sadly i doubt that will be via the BBC or ITV! I would expect the PVL compilation to be the highlight of the day for any music/totp fans.

Yes i agree Paul it does look good , but i do find it frustrating that the only ones who will ever get to see it are those lucky enough to be able to get there ,like you i hope one day there can be a way when all of us that are interested in classic tv shows are able to see them.

At least Kaleidoscope are out there making this material available, for free, to anyone who can get there to see it. The scenario is not ideal and I am sure, in the future, this sort of material will be available in an on demand scenario but whining about it in a Kaleidoscope thread comes over as mean spirited. If I make it there it will not be "luck" either. Oh, and AIUI, the material is in the process of being returned to the Beeb.

I'm not whining about it at all , what i'm simply saying is this , i think kaleidoscope do a fantastic job and i take my hat off to them for all the work they do , at least someone is trying to get this material out there for those that are able to get there to see it and that's great, but i restate again that one day i hope that alot of this stuff will be available for everyone who's interested in seeing it, we only live once and there's alot of us who would dearly like to watch this stuff but for various reasons are unable to, just look at the totps episodes that were found with Pink Floyd etc will they ever be seen again , i wouldn't hold my breath on that but as i said they do a fantastic job and long may they keep up the good work . One more thing as for the material being returned to the bbc do you think this increases it's chances of us watching it , i doubt it very much.

Not long to go now until the next Kaleidoscope Music Event on June 7th and thanks to John Henshall, you'll have the opportunity to own a piece of pop television history. ‘Top of the Pops’ aficionados will remember the kaleidoscopic effect used at the end of the programme in the 1970s and '80s, behind the credits and end music. But how was this effect achieved? In those days digital effects were unknown and the effect was achieved using a unique lens attachment rented from the camera effects company Telefex. Most of the Telefex camera effects – including the Fisheye Lens used on Bowie’s ‘The Jean Genie', Multi-Image prisms and Star filters – were entrusted to the care of the National Media Museum in Bradford a few years ago. A few items remained, forgotten in John Henshall’s archive storage unit until recently. With Perspex reflectors inside a tube with a fisheye lens at the end, the ‘Telefex Tunnel Lens 2’ kaleidoscope used in the closing of ’Top of the Pops’ was one of the items which came to light. Rather than send it to a museum, possibly never to be seen again, John Henshall is making this unique device available for sale to a dedicated ‘Top of the Pops’ enthusiast, with the entire proceeds going to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a unique piece of pop history! There's been some enquiries about what we're going to be showing from the PVL collection on the day. I can confirm that the following will be included: Hotshots - Snoopy Vs Red Baron (22-6-73) Mungo Jerry - Alright Alright Alright (6-7-73) Nazareth - Bad Bad Boy (20-7-73) Geordie - Electric Lady (17-8-73) 10cc - The Dean and I (31-08-73) Wizzard - Angel Fingers (31-8-73) Sweet - Ballroom Blitz (20-9-73) Lulu - The Man Who Sold The World (7-2-74) Queen - Seven Seas of Rhye (14-3-74) Bryan Ferry - Smoke Gets In Your Eyes (13-09-74) Hello - Tell Him (21-11-74) David Essex - Gonna Make You A Star (21-11-74) Hopefully we'll see you there on Saturday the 7th June.
