Well spotted Mark. Actually, NOT Willie Alexander. Wilbert Harrison wrote and recorded the original song in the early 60s. A great track--in all its versions, IMHO. I like to think of Dylan's version,on 'Down in the Groove' as a tribute to Bryan Ferry...

The next episode after that will be 1971-03-03, which is another black and white one but sadly, it appears, from after the time when TOTP clips were being used.

I was looking at Gerhart's blog that he linked to earlier and in particular the episode dates. I think this little run covers all the episodes with TOTP content (marked with an asterisk) listed in the blog. There are screenshots from all these shows in the blog.
1969-10-08 Wed 1969-11-12 Wed* 1969-12-10 Wed* 1970-02-11 Wed 1970-03-11 Wed* 1970-04-08 Wed 1970-05-06 Wed* 1970-06-17 Wed 1970-09-13 Sun* 1970-11-29 Sun* 1970-12-16 Wed 1971-01-17 Sun* 1971-03-03 Wed 1971-03-31 Wed 1971-04-28 Wed
So, that looks very much like a classic early seventies European monthly pop show. The summer gap between June and September need not indicate anything missing. But at the end of 1970-09-13 Graham Bonney refers to the next episode coming from Hamburg, which some episodes did, but not 1970-11-29.
So does anyone know if there was an October 1970 episode from Hamburg? And was there a January 1970 episode?
Disco started on the rival ZDF in February 1971, and it doesn't look like there are TOTP clips in Hits À Gogo episodes from that point onwards. To fill in some info on the 69/71 era, from archive numberings these appear to have been made. 1 show either March or April 1969 2 shows between June and Sept 1969. January 1970 July 1970 August 1970 October 1970

Nothing listed in the archives that are known about, but they have not been fully cataloged as yet. As for TOTP content, it's obviously not known about as there are no listings, but could potentially contain 8 or more TOTP performances.

I'm looking for DVDs of two episodes of those reruns from einsfestival, both featuring Geordie clips. Would anyone happen to have them or know someone who does? These are the episodes:
HITS A GO GO 1973-06-15 Eddy Becker; Baden-Baden. (SRG+SWR) Einsfestival 2014-06-21 HITS A GO GO 1974-10-22 (NDR) Einsfestival 2014-11-15
I know one is on YouTube but really looking for TV quality here. Thanks in advance for your help!
Please pm for response or here...

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I curiously came across this, A COLOR Kinescope of Badfinger on TOTP from 1970. Now I know that this particular clip survives on videotape, but the whole episode is only on black and white kinescope.
Clip cuts out right before Savile appears

Wasn't that the TOTP that the chroma-dot recovery process was tested on?

I'm confused (although it doesn't take much) - surely this colour performance has been around and known about for years? Isn't this exactly the same as was featured in "The Rock 'n' Roll Years - 1970" way back in 1986? Sure looks like the same one to me. It's also been repeated as part of TOTP2 in 2012, when Mark Radcliffe made a comment about drummer Mike Gibbins mouthing along with the vocals - "yes, all right on the drums - we've seen you. But you're not really a singer, are you? Otherwise you'd have a microphone." What's the deal with the 'kinescope' thing?

Survives courtesy of the Bob Pratt collection. Along with a number of other colour performances from the same episode and some DJ links. No chroma-dot recovery process. The b & w full copy is ex 16mm.
