With Roger's recent passing I had a look for some of his early TV appearances and came across this clip from 1968 From a series called Degree's of Folk which miraculously apparently exists in full - Some good guests listed including Alexis Korner, Julie Felix and Pentangle. Slightly O/T I know, but does anyone else - like I do - just get the memory of Frank Spencer singing "Early One Morning" for his audition at a holiday camp when they heard that song?!

I'm sure Tom Brown (of Schooldays fame) was made to sing that in front of the Big Boys in one of the adaptations.
Meanwhile...Roger W. seemed to be on TV a fair bit in the day, and I'd always figure he'd have to give us Old Durham Town, since that seemed to be his only hit!

This was his biggest, getting all the way to No. 2:

I think "I Don't Believe In If Anymore" was a bigger hit in the UK than "Durham".. also "New World In The Morning", "Mamy Blue" were also both top-tenners here, and one called "Why", if memory serves.

In fact...it's funny how we can miss things. I'd seen Chad and Jeremy on the Dick van Dyke Show, and thought they were a fake UK duo made up for the story. Then, yesterday, there they were in an episode of Batman. A swift Google showed me I'd missed them entirely in the 60s!

To be fair, Chad and Jeremy were (and are) virtually unknown in the UK. I like 'em though!

With Chad and Gordon no longer with us, Peter and Jeremy now tour together.

There was a wonderful ad/plug Chad & Jeremy did for Andrew Sandoval's Come To The Sunshine radio show "This is Chad, and this is Jeremy of Chad and Jeremy no less, and certainly no more!"

Having derailed the thread, I'm going to have to start a Chad and Jeremy one, so the posts can be transferred!
