Thanks for the info William - another series I've never heard of and being a 60's BBC show all missing in action www.lostshows.com/default.aspx?programme=da53d931-56e4-40bc-bf49-2f64c89b95a4It prompted me to hunt around the web and found a few bits of information From Rock on tv website
26/01/1968 Eric Burdon & The Animals / The Move [All Systems Freeman, BBC1 b&w] (Eric Burdon almost certainly did "Sky Pilot" and The Move "Fire Brigade" as both singles were released today) an overview listed here www.transdiffusion.org/tv/halcyondays/1960s/all_systems_fre_2In mentions filmed reports and "films of groups performing in "non studio settings" so there is a possibility of material being in existence - Ray are you there ?

I am - barely (still woozy after op....) Interesting bits:- ""A film clip promoting Gary Walker & The Rain's single "Spooky" is cut from BBC TV's "All Systems Freeman" on the 9th following the issue of an injunction restraining the group's vocalist Paul Crane (ex Cryin' Shames) from taking part in any activity by the group."" This would have featured Joey Molland, pre-Badfinger.... Lady Madonna - the promo film - would have been shown in monochrome 15/03/1968. Also - although I've found no footage yet - here's a studio set pic:- www.northerndanceorchestra.org.uk/page4.html

Intro to the start of "All Systems Freeman" from the 1967 Xmas Radio Times the show started on the 5th January 1968 I've now checked through every episode as listed in the Radio Times and they give no information as to the guests on week to week shows so unless anyone else can come up with some further information then this is it.

I was in touch with Zad Tourmoche, the original drummer with the Cedars a while back. I wanted him to confirm my 13 year old memory of seeing the band do "For Your Information" on what I assumed was the new releases slot on TOTP (shaky teenage memory syndrome) anyway it turned out to be All Systems Freeman. Here is the relevant part of his reply. Hope you find it interesting.
"Let’s clarify this for you: In 1968 Decca released our first UK Record ‘FOR YOUR INFORMATION’, at the time of release,I think it was November or December 1967,that we appeared on UK BBC TV,on a special music – New Record Releases, and the Show was hosted by ALAN FREEMAN,who at that time was given his own TV Show, and left Top Of The Pops,”Hi Pop-Pickers”,his famous quote. So,we appeared on the First Alan Freeman TV Show which was Recorded at BBC TV STUDIOS IN MANCHESTER – ENGLAND – UK. During that show Herman’s Hermits were promoting their new single, and Bee Gees were promoting their new record ‘WORD’. Micky Most, the manager of Herman’s Hermit, was the judge for predicting how each record will do in the Charts,so he praised Herman’s and Bee Gees’ Records, and said our record will not get to the charts. However,in 1968 our record was No.1 in the Turkish Charts in its English format.lol. Hope this will clarify this point of history".

This was more than I ever hoped for, to hear the memories of someone who was actually on the show! (priceless) thanks Rob and Zad!

There is a listing in Getty Images that the Beeb have the pilot (05/01/68), but I am not sure how true that is - even the Beeb have some 'rogue' database entries.
""Title:
ALL SYSTEMS FREEMAN:PILOT
Caption:
Guid: LLV5048D
Transmission date:
05 Jan 1968
Clip #:
BBC_LLV5048D
Source:
BBC Broadcast Archive
Aspect ratios:
4:3
Object name:
BBC_LLV5048D ""
I expect inserts are more likely in the digital world, but I will try and contact the Beeb when I have time to check.

Hi Ray, Great news (if it's true) have you got a contact at the Beeb?

I do.
I honestly think this is one of the Beeb's error's though. Let's not get too excited yet. I think it's a 50-1 shot at best this is accurate. :/

Great info !
as Mary Hopkin sang - those WERE the days, (to me) whatever anyone might say about how great pop music is now...!!
Re that quote by The Cedars drummer - was The Bee Gees 1968 single 'World' not 'Word' ? (They also did 'Words' of course - sung solo by Barry and performed on Ed Sullivan Show in colour, but I don't think that was a 1968 single, correct me if I'm wrong)
I think Mickie Most was probably referring to the UK singles chart not worldwide
A few odd things happened in those days (& later !) re chart placings tho', and a few years later we had the mysterious Christie thing re 'Iron Horse' dropping out of the top thirty despite strong record sales of the single...

Now you point it out, its obviously a typo isn't it? He must mean World.
I do remember seeing a few episodes of All Systems Freeman. It was a cracking show as I recall and it would be great if any turned up, but I don't think I'll be placing bets at odds of 50/1
