I'd like to see some of the missing TOTP films I recall c. 1969-71. One of these; for Redbones 'Witch queen of new Orleans'; might be able to be reconstructed. It showed a camera travelling through underground caverns in Chiselhurst caves. I've always assumed they just used stock footage from something else which they re-edited and tinted. Though I only saw it in black and white the tones of shots varied. One had a darkroom type quality so you could guess it might have been tinted red.

The BBC have a few of these films (period 1970-75), made by Caravel and Optis Films. The Witch Queen of New Orleans MAY be one. I'll have to check my list.

This is from the Ampex reel they discovered at BBC Glasgow and it survives in 'broadcast' condition. They have shown The Move – California Man before on TOTP2 however I am surprised the BBC have never shown The New Seekers-Circles, one of their best records in my opinion. . 22-6-72: Presenter: Ed Stewart (Start missing) (8) THE SWEET – Little Willy (crowd dancing) (and charts) (6) GARY GLITTER – Rock And Roll (Part 2) (24) ELVIS PRESLEY – An American Trilogy (video) (43) ARGENT – Tragedy (20) FREE – Little Bit Of Love (danced to by Pan’s People) (21) THE NEW SEEKERS – Circles (NEW) DANA – Crossword Puzzle (7) THE MOVE – California Man (1) DON McLEAN – Vincent (video) (25) B. BUMBLE & THE STINGERS – Nut Rocker (crowd dancing) (and credits)

Just to be clear in case anyone thinks this show is complete, the tape starts halfway through the Elvis promo and suffers some 'colour shifting'. It still looks pretty good, but not perfect.

So... a still picture of The Supremes from TOTP... I don't believe this performance still exists, anyone here know transmission date? From the position of Florence and Mary's hands, they re obviously singing "Nothing But Heartaches".

Inclusive of records comprising Pan's People; etc; performances and films; etc, here are some of the songs/instrumentals I'd most like to see if any were to ever turn up. Some exist on alternate weeks/years:
The Searchers – Needles and Pins; Tom Jones – It's Not Unusual; Nancy Sinatra – These Boots Are Made for Walking; Lulu – The Boat That I Row; Johnny Mann Singers – Up; Up and Away; Moody Blues – Nights in White Satin (1967 performances not listed but referred to on 15/11/79 as being first performed in 1967); Felice Taylor – I Feel Love Comin' On; Spanky and Our Gang – I'd Like to Get to Know You; 1910 Fruitgum Company – Simon Says; Bee Gees – Words; Reparata and the Delrons – Captain of Your Ship; Tom Jones – Help Yourself; Herman’s Hermits – Sunshine Girl; Marmalade – Lovin’ Things; The Equals – Viva Bobby Joe; (Audience dance) Booker T and the MGs – Time is Tight; Fifth Dimension – Aquarius / Let the Sunshine In (Medley); Kenny Rogers and the First Edition – Ruby Don’t Take Your Love Town (may still exist on “The Andy Williams Show”); Roger Whittaker – New World in the Morning; Christie – Yellow River (performances); Mr Bloe – Groovin' with Mr Bloe; Hot Chocolate – Love is Life; CCS – Whole Lotta Love; Frankie Valli – You're Ready Now

There's a few there that do exist. That's right. Some of the songs I've included do indeed exist, but not all performances like Suzi Quatro's Can the Can which exists privately on TOTP 11/05/73 and at the BBC on TOTP 25/12/73, but all her other performances of this song remain wiped, so I've made some overlaps. Electric Light Orchestra - Livin' Thing. Not a performance, just the promo video was shown on totp Indeed, and an excellent promo it is too, which I've seen online : www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvBOZCrJsAI It also exists with other songs as part of the PVL, but sadly not at the BBC. Good to have though.
