The 1975 return is the main objection to the "Australia" theory, John. We can't prove that Australia had multiple copies of these Troughton stories to send somewhere else, perhaps to Vietnam, but it's possible.

Wasn't there an episode of The Dominators found at the ABC in the early 80's? Maybe it was a case of the ABC telling the BBC what was being returned without it being checked.

Iirc that was the only known surviving ep of CT that was found after the crate had been sent, and it was then sent back. @ Sue, there really wouldn't be any need for Australia to make multiple copies when they aren't needed, it'd be a waste of time and money.

There has been talk in the past about Australia either needing multiple copies for different parts of the country or bicycling them internally. However, I thought that had all been refuted as they had microwave links by then ?

I've found some more notes I made at the ABC in Perth. ABC programmes sourced from video were still being sent to Western Australia on 16mm film in November 1969, and probably for a while afterwards. There was no link then.

(The info in my previous post is based on the discovery of two 16mm telerecordings behind a filing cabinet at ABC Perth in 1984. They were "This Day Tonight" N2628 6.7.67., and "Friends Of The Family" 9.11.69.)
