The vast majority of modern TV is utter garbage imo. When my last television broke down, I didn't replace it, I find it unlikely that it has improved radically in the last few years so I will stick with that assessment! I tend to dislike the current 'remake culture'; I think it stifles new creativity in the medium; I hear Blakes 7 is being 'rebooted' shortly which brings to mind the phrase 'if it aint broke, don't fix it'. Although that said you do get the odd decent thing made, like Breaking bad and primeval. Perhaps with some kind of fan effort to remake classic lost who in a faithful style a starting point might be if some kind of general statement of intent were drafted by any interested parties and people could volunteer whatever skill they might be able to bring to it in terms of production, acting, prop making etc. Not something I would be able to commit sufficient time to, but that might be a way to get something like it started. Oh and Greg, don't forget Mad Men,undoubtedly one of the best series of the past 10 years,if not of all time...

Reboot. BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. Some reboots do work... Blakes 7 being an xbone exclusive could be a problem for some but am actually looking forward to it. Microsoft may suprise us. Fingers crossed for a decent B7 game!

I agree as far as UK programming is concerned, however IMHO there is a lot of good stuff coming out of the states, as well as Mad Men and Breaking Bad, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, Southland, etc. Very impressed with Low Winter Sun so far, different take on the urban cop show highly recommended.

Absolutely. British TV has completely gone down the pan in the scheme of things. We still produce the occasional decent sitcom, although of course humour is a very subjective thing, but in terms of world class drama.... well I don't want to offend anyone but all the UK made stuff I see is pretty weak. Although it pains me to say it America is very much leading the way with entertaining television and has been for a while now. As you mentioned there, game of thrones and breaking bad are both excellent shows, I haven't seen the others. The walking dead while flawed is still head and shoulders above UK produce, sons of anarchy isn't bad either. Mainstream American cinema I don't tend to touch with a barge pole 99% of the time, but then you can't have everything! I have recently been exploring some Australian and New Zealand television via the wonders of the internet and so far it seems in a fairly healthy state.

Too true, the only UK drama I have enjoyed recently was The Fall with Gillian Anderson about a serial killer in N. Ireland, well worth a look if you haven't seen it. Sadly can't think of anything else worthy of mention. Acting on UK TV seems to be of the gurn, shout and roll eyes variety now. Listen to me, I'm turning into my Father, things ain't what they used to be, LOL

This is getting so off topic. For fans of aussie drama (and reboots) ckeck out the Fox8 series WENTWORTH a gritty remake of the soap Prisoner aka Cell block H. Fantastic. Also the Underbelly series are worth a look. Each series is a different story regarding Aussie crime syndicates. Some series are near contemporary others historical.

Yep, this is extremely off topic, but then the rumours thread is 'on topic' and this strikes me as somewhat healthier (and happier) I must confess a weakness for prisoner cell block H, as bad a person as that makes me. I didn't know Wentworth had been made so I shall check that when the opportunity arises. A couple of shows I would recommend from around the globe are 'Death comes to town' from Canada which I found funny and also an Australian sitcom called 'Laid' which I found original in concept and a good laugh. Also Næturvaktin and it's two sequels are pure genius and certainly suggest Icelandic TV has it going on...... Any other suggestions from around the globe? and has anyone started remaking web of fear yet?

Cable TV is currently playing through the entire Cell Block H series in Australia. (My girlfriend and I are guilty of watching it too ;-) ). It rated so well that they decided on a reboot. To somehow drag it back on track - an episode was actually filmed live in front of real prisoners in a Victorian prison - it was a variety show featuring the cast. To my knowledge it has never been repeated or released. Anyone know how to obtain a copy?

I must admit I enjoyed Lillyhammer and I'm looking forward to the second series. Saw the first series of Underbelly when it was on Fox. Are the other series available in the UK now, I drew a blank when I looked before?
