It's a nice clip. I haven't heard of this show before. Might have to have a look around on the net for some more info. Thanks for posting it!

Domestic video format from 1956? Surely not? Is this a typo or were they perhaps recorded on a much later repeat? Any ideas? The picture quality on the youtube uploads did not look at all bad!

The reason it's listed as Domestic Video is because those episodes have been uploaded from Something Weird Video's release - "TV Rarities lost and Found vol. 1" - so the only known copies are from dvd-r; It's probable that SWV have the 16mm copies but since in the past they have sold on 16mm & 35mm copies of "Aggie" & "Sailor Of Fortune" which are not known to exist elsewhere; without trying to release them!!; It's possible they sold the Strange Experiences films on too.

Good grief.Any information about the UCLA listing of a roll of 16mm labelled 'Strange Experiences',David?

Very interesting information David and thanks for the reply. I have a few SWV releases of obscure 60s ephemera, but this had completely passed me by. I wonder if SWV would be amenable to contact regarding their possible holdings? I expect it has already been done, but it is even interesting to know how SWV would have ended up with these prints.

the UCLA film print will be three to five episodes strung together - could be all episides not presently known to exist.
It's not known who owns the rights to the series so in theory they could all be sat safe and sound in an archive somewhere.
The series screened in the uk as a schedule filler show and may have had proper titles and credits but the swv print as you can see from the sponsors message is from the USA, my own print of three episodes iirc came from the states too so USA broadcasts seem to have been in 10 to 15 minute slots with various episodes strung together.
thus far the 8 known surviving episodes have been relatively easy to identify because you can match the title in the Kaliedoscope guides up to the fairly simple plots - unfortunately Kal. could only find 26 episodes broadcast against a tv times article that says 28 episodes were made so even the number of episodes can't be confirmed - As far as ITV dramas go it's about as obscure as you can get
I did see one other episode sell on ebay but I know no details of it & that as far as I know is the current sum total of info about surviving material - thanks for bringing up the UCLA print as I was unaware of it.

I don't think anyone has approached SWV - I do know that the Aggie & Sailor of Fortune films came from a film storage facility in New York which was liquidated in bulk - the listing is probably online still - I did scour it pretty thoroughly, unfortunately when SWV were selling them off I was skint but I know pretty much all of them sold to a Canadian Buyer who was shelling out some pretty hefty ammounts for such obscure material so I figured it was someone who wanted to try and release stuff as "public Domain" - but nothing has appeared since.

I've mentioned it before, but I love the way that an episode of Rendezvous 'The Funmaster' was shoved onto a DVD release of the U.S. series 'Suspense'. The 'Passport to Danger' releases are interesting, too, though matching titles to those on Lost Shows can be a bit tricky.

I might see if I can strike up conversation with someone at SWV, just on the off chance they have some interesting information or unexpected material in amongst their prints. It can't hurt I suppose.

Nice one,Greg. If you get a chance, ask them how 'The Adventures of Aggie' don't fall under the definition 'Something Weird'!

I suspect they believed that strange experiences was in the public domain, but that Aggie & Sailor Of Fortune weren't so they just flogged on the prints.
As far as I know ITV should own Sailor Of Fortune and it's possible they do have a set of prints; after all they did have the supposedly missing episodes of the scarlet pimpernel & that was another early ITC related series. Aggie - anyones guess - I don't think a current copyright holder has ever been traced by Kal. or the BFI.

I'm wondering if anything more's been heard about this? Wondering, too, what'll happen to Something Weird's archive, following the founder's death? www.imdb.com/news/ni56617777/
