Amazing these were still around for re-broadcast in the late '70s but discarded afterwards. Changes of ownership of the Thames library played their part, I suspect. I have seen the odd episode over the years though, so I suspect there may be a few broadcast masters in private hands even if Fremantle don't hold many (any?). Schools programmes form such an important part of our early development and it's disgusting that more of them haven't been preserved for re-evaluation on that basis. Still, a nice discovery! The NAEA have a huge amount of video tapes of things from 73-92 (approximately); mainly schools shows but a few kids programmes too (the odd Pipkins and some others....). They have a lot of Stop Look Listen and Picture Box, for example.

Do you know if they hold these things on broadcast masters, film prints or semi-domestic formats?

Thanks for that, John. Looking at that old list of programmes, I'm fairly sure that all of How We Used To Live exists. The Picture Box and Experiment editions probably do too as I think there are a lot in the archive, particularly of the former (not certain of this though so if anyone has clear info, please let us know). Some of those other series might exist too, expecially when you get past about the mid '70s. It's the early '70s and earlier that have the massive gaps.

There were a few missing shows located in this archive, 5 or 6 (I think there's an old thread I did which lists a few), an episode of the Messengers was one.)
I'll try and dig out the old thread when time allows.

At the BFI:
'After Noon Plus': 12/1/1979
4/12/1980.
And from 1981... 21/7 28/7 4/8 11/8 18/8 6/11 17/12
They may also have a complete copy of 27/9/1982.
Could have been mentioned before,of course...
If you search for 'menopause' (don't ask) on Lostshows you get "After Noon Plus.Series 4 --/--/--.Menopause".The BFI have got an After Noon Plus with a feature on the menopause from 17/3/1981,which would make it series 3. 17/3/1981 isn't listed as missing...

This does not easily qualify as to be in this or my youtube threads.
I am very pleased to announce that the vast majority of the whole series of Saturday Stayback has been found via copies made on domestic video tape.
""Missing or incomplete episodes for programme SATURDAY STAYBACK.
22.01.83 with Chris Tarrant, Helen Atkinson Wood, Bob Carolgees, Timothy Davies, Tony Slattery (missing) 29.01.83 with Chris Tarrant, Helen Atkinson Wood, Bob Carolgees, Timothy Davies, Tony Slattery (missing) 05.02.83 with Chris Tarrant, Helen Atkinson Wood, Bob Carolgees, Timothy Davies, Tony Slattery (missing) 12.02.83 with Chris Tarrant, Helen Atkinson Wood, Bob Carolgees, Timothy Davies, Tony Slattery (missing) 19.02.83 with Chris Tarrant, Helen Atkinson Wood, Bob Carolgees, Timothy Davies, Tony Slattery (missing) 26.02.83 with Chris Tarrant, Helen Atkinson Wood, Bob Carolgees, Timothy Davies, Tony Slattery (missing)
All 6 episodes are missing.""
Around two minutes of the final edition are missing (oddly enough during a Rolf Harris mickey-take....).

submit to Lost Shows.com for the Rediffusion series Star Performance 1967-8 episode Of Mice And Men ..that the UCLA Film and Television Archive has the following database entry
Of Mice And Men - 1 reel of 1 (ca 1000 feet) 16mm - Incomplete.
Lost Shows says of 13 episodes made, 7 are Missing with a further one incomplete ie Of Mice And Men. Perhaps the most well-known episode is one that exists..Dare I Weep, Dare I Mourn as this was shown as part of Frank Muir TV Heaven 1967 programme around 2 decades ago..James Mason, Jill Bennett and a young Tony Selby as the East German motorcycle cop.
