IIRC Channel 4 had a banned season in the early 1990s. Indeed they did. Banned programmes are not always gratuitous, sometimes it is political or controversial in terms of being libellous. Does anyone have a list of what was shown? Banned shows I can think of include, Doomwatch: Sex & Violence, The Professionals: The Klansmen, The TV version of Scum, & IIRC a programme on Spycatcher, which Special Branch had to take away. PS: The last episode of The Secret Army was unshown.

Not British but an episode of the original 'Hawaii Five-O' titled; 'Bored She hung Herself' was withdrawn after one American screening so I believe, & never rerun - it's not included in the later DVD season box set either
I think someone may have followed the actions of the girl in the episode in real life, thus the network decided to withdraw the episode.
I think it was later posted on youtube for a while (tho' probably taken off by them)

South of the Border, a World in Action from the mid-70's - is, if I recall "missing"; it was pulled by the IBA after government disagreement with some of the show. South of the Border exists and a copy is held by the BFI. It was produced in 1971 and was banned during the production phase by the ITA after concerns were raised about its proposed content by Ulster Television, which had an informal veto on networked programmes about Northern Ireland at that time. UTV's fear was that the film could become a propaganda piece for the IRA. Despite the ban, Granada finished the film on its own initiative but the finished product didn't go far enough in addressing the concerns of the ITA and Ulster Television. So it remained banned. The conspiracy claims first surfaced when Granada subsequently tried to apply pressure on the ITA through anonymous briefings to the press making allegations about UTV and its alleged links to the Ulster Unionist Party. I have yet to find any tangible evidence to support them.

It looks like it's probably known about and exists somewhere in an archive. Erm... it's been released on DVD.

Sale of the Century.... I have NO idea of the archive survival rate of this. NONE. But this often maligned show has had a recent uploading of a show txd 08/01/1972. The episode was actually broadcast on 08/01/71 and is held on Digibeta by ITV. They also hold 22/01/72, which is another episode which doesn't appear on lostshows.com.

More Crossroads.... This montage apparently contains the start of Episode 2300, which is apparently missing from the archives. The uploader helpfully gives some info as to the source. Sounds like a job for Ray? www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBmCWoSe9hU

And by the way who is John Jameson? He clearly doesn't own the copyright to this material, the ITV time clock shows 2300 was dubbed from an ITV tape, :-)

Ken, Lostshows lists missing Sale of the Century, hence those two not showing.

Ken, Lostshows lists missing Sale of the Century, hence those two not showing. That's an amazing survival ratio for a gameshow. Lostshows isn't very clear - it starts with that "All Editions Except Surviving Episodes Listed Here (missing)" implying that the missing list is actually a list of surviving editions.

Looking through their web forums, it appears that they believe that the episode survived until 1997 but was junked by Carlton? Apparently the full episode is circulating in fan circles.

Yeah, I'm pretty confused by this description. Can anyone clarify what exists and what's missing?

Yes it is a bit confusing, we need to do a proper list of all the junked episodes. Literally only a handful survive.

I wonder how many music fans that bemused.
