I wondered whether anyone might be able to throw some light on the listing of a 'sound only' entry on the BBC Motion Gallery site. This appears to indicate the existence of an audio recording (or at least excerpts) of the missing Out of the Unknown episode 'The Naked Sun, directed by Rudolph Cartier for the third series of OOTU in 1969: LDP9232W - OUT OF THE UNKNOWN: THE NAKED SUN Catalogue:LONPROG Catalogue Page: 9894831 Item Duration:00:49:32.000+01:00 Subject - Science fiction mystery drama 'The Naked Sun' by Isaac ASIMOV, dramatised by Robert MULLER. Detective Baley must solve a murder on the planet Solaria, where reclusive people have their every need attended to by robots. > NB:ONLY SOUND REMAINS I've already made direct enquiries, but the department is essentially a commercial footage licensing department of the BBC and can only help companies seeking to license the reuse of BBC footage (they've politely pointed out that they're not in a position to assist with private research enquiries). It seems clear that the Motion Gallery site does not have any direct links with the Radiophonic Workshop holdings, so it's unlikely the listing relates to the surviving Delia Derbyshire compositions for this episode. Any further details as to what this refers to would be most welcome

00:49:32, if thats 49 minutes and 32 seconds then thats about the correct length for the full audio! maybe and off air copy was given to them. I think about 4 minutes of audio already exist from this story though.

its does say that THE CHOPPER and THE SHATTERED EYE exist on VT though, so it may be a little incorrect

I typed in THIRTY MINUTE THEATRE to see what came up on this site, and its saying they have a copy of the episode TEETH, which lost shows is saying is missing. This site must either have a few errors in, or there have been a few things discovered that lost shows hasn't heard about.

If you go into the Teeth entry and click on Additional Information, there's a note at the bottom which says "Film available: No", so there are items there which don't appear to exist at all, and unfortunately Teeth appears to be one of them.

It's saying film unavailable for THE NAKED SUN too, but they only said they had the audio for that.

Yes, and the Dr Who entry doesn't even mention the audio, just says "Film Available: No", so it's clearly an inconsistent system!
Anyway, it doesn't clear up whether they do actually have the OOTU audio, so we're not really much the wiser!

I've found with some of these ambiguous entries where the item isn't definitely said to be missing, the reason for the listing is often something along the lines of a clip existing (either audio or video) or an insert (or sound insert of same). It could be something like that here, although probably nothing much of consequence. This database can be pretty useless in a lot of ways, similar to the old BFI one which just lists programmes in a random fashion unrelated to archive status!

It couldn't,really,be simpler. They list shows they've got. They also list some they haven't got.Sometimes,it seems, there's a note recording the fact that it's absent.Sometimes there isn't. What better tool could there be for researchers?
(You may wish to Google "tool" if you're unfamiliar with the term).

And I'd just reckoned that that line was too uncouth, and was going to delete it...
