If it is the BBC 1960 production, it IS missing...

Hi Andrew,
I just bought it....
Is Christine Slattery still the right person to contact? If so I'll send her a note when I get the print...
Cheers - Steve

PS - I just reread your posting -- and noticed that you said "If it is .." rather than "it is ..."...
Here's the details -- does this give you enough info to figure out if it's the right film...
If not, no big deal...

Steven,
I've just checked Radio Times and this is indeed the 1960 BBC Schools adaptation - first shown 8th and 15th March, in two episodes (but we don't have either).
Yes, Christine is still the person to contact about this - and thanks very much for being willing to loan it to us.
Andrew

Well done everyone! This is a wonderful find. I adore the pictures of the lion! Did anyone notice that the description labeled it as the "Hard To Find Version Of This Story"? Somewhat ironic, I think.

Care to elucidate?? If you mean that he'll only ship to the US, that's not much of a problem seeing as I live in the US... And I've known the seller for about 15 years - so I hardly think there's likely to be a problem there either...

Did anyone notice that the description labeled it as the "Hard To Find Version Of This Story"? Yes, i'm always on the lookout for "hard to find" versions of programmes myself - e.g. Ace Of Wands series 1 and 2, Doomwach: Friday's Child / Survival Code, Doctor Who: Web Of Fear 2-6 and a whole host of Rediffusion series!

I suppose 'hard to find' might be a reference to the fact there is another version of "Androcles and the Lion", again BBC Schools, from 1983 (2 episodes again, repeated as one programme in peak time on BBC2 in 1984). Starring Billy Connolly....! This one does exist so might be easier to get hold of (comparatively)!

I talked to the seller -- I think he meant that he couldn't find any information about this show anywhere , and so deduced that it was "hard to find" from that.... I don't think he's got any notiion of "missing" tv....

I suppose the 80s version of is pretty hard to find too - I don't suppose too many people have a copy, it hasn't been shown in the UK since 1987!

Steven I hope that if you are sending it the BBC, you are going to be re-embursed for your trouble? The BBC is not a charity, its run by the licence payers and as a licence payer myself , I think you deserve something for restoring an obviously lost item.

Got the reel... It's only part 1 of the show unfortunately (covers the prolog and Act 1 of the play). I've asked the seller if he's got the other reel, but I'm not too hopeful...
Andrew: I'll contact Christine and let her know I have it.
