Hi, John, great response! Well, I think that the performances of Kenneth Rogers (Kenny Rogers) and Tom & Jerry (Simon & Garfunkel) are gone too... But there's still lots and lots of rarities in the DC Archives, for sure. And how about the Where The Action Is archives? Lots of garage bands and some british acts there! Regards

Hi Paulo,
Wow. I didn't realise we could break the messages up into paragraphs. I thought if I hit ENTER it would send the message. That's why my last posts were a single, non-stop paragraph. This is good to know.
Yes, there is still some great stuff in Dick's archive. I'm thinking about uploading a few of the American Bandstand performances from the early 60's, only because they are artists who were popular in the 50's and the look fits well with the Beech-Nut shows. I'm talking about artists like Sam Cooke, Bobby Rydell, Jerry Lee Lewis, etc...
Jackie DeShannon does a pretty decent rendition of Buddy Holly's "Oh Boy". Then there are artists like Neil Diamond. Now we're getting into a whole new look, style, manner of dancing and overall atmosphere. I don't want to tarnish the mellow look of the Beech-Nut shows by mixing the performances, so I may start a 2nd You Tube channel just for the 60's music. Some of these artists will be from "Where the Action Is".
I'll keep you posted if and when I do that. Please let me be clear about something. I don't want to violate the rules of this great website, and it seems that some of what was written in a previous post of mine may have been on the border of an 'interpreted' violation. I never buy, sell or trade anything. When I mentioned about being happy to "share", I was referring to via the You Tube website. It was thought I was perhaps offering copies of DVD's to sell or trade. I just want to make sure the moderators know that this is not the case.
With that said, I must leave for the day. I want to again thank everybody on this website and it's a pleasure to know all of you.
Thanks Paulo, and I will keep everybody posted of any new or exciting finds.
Take care,
John

Hi John, Thanks for all the clips. There's definitely an audience of music fans who are enjoying these and I wasn't even born when these artists were having their hits. I know Dick Clark has been talked about since his death on this forum. missingepisodes.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=totp&thread=7134&page=1 It's interesting to hear from someone with an insight to his archive. I am also keen to see material from 'Where The Action Is!' especially The Who performing at Tower Bridge which I've only seen in really poor quality. I've seen clips of the Small Faces and Yardbirds performing at iconic London locations, is there many other Britsh beat groups performances in the archive? Any thoughts of what will happen to these in the future?

Do you have Stonewall Jackson doing "Waterloo" and Webb Pierce doing "No Love Have I"? Those are my holy grails.
Also, i'm soo happy to see many of those clips you've uploaded.

Has there ever been a listing put together of what American Bandstand/Beachnut/Where The Action is! (if Any) are missing from the Dick Clark Archives? Be interesting to know what holes are in that collection.
I know large chunks of the Philadelphia era of A/B is missing, but have never seen any definitive lists of what is still "lost" overall.
Considering the survival rate of ABC's DARK SHADOWS from 1966-1971 (1224 of 1225 shows as VTs and Kinescopes), I'd be curious to know what the survival rate of Dick Clark's shows were in the same time-period. and what formats.

John i hope you don't mind me asking and i know it's probably a bit of a long shot , but do you know anything about Pink Floyd's appearance on American Bandstand and also The Pat Boone Show thanks for any info on these.
6.11.67: American Bandstand (ABC-TV, USA) This second American TV performance followed the format of the previous day's show. After minming to See Emily Play the group participated in an insane Q&A session with host Dick Clark. This was followed by a mimed performance of their latest single, Apples And Oranges. A poor quality B&W film of the latter song has recently surfacedm but the rest of the show remains unseen since its original transmission. The visual evidence of Syd's wasted stat confirms that his days with the band indeed were numbered.
5.11.67: Pat Boone Show (CBS-TV, USA) This is the most fanous early Floyd TV appearance, even though it's never been since its original broadcast. Pink Floyd head off to the States for a November tour, which was a disaster from the word go, with several dates cancelled and rescheduled due to to late arrival of of permits. Syd Barrett, suffering from what was later described as nervous exhaustion, failed to perform to any consistent standard, and the band were recalled to England. On this occasion, Barrett stared blankly at Boone during a Q&A session and later remained motionless as they mimed See Emily Play, his arms hanging limply by his side as he refused to mouth the words. Roger Waters spared Boone's embarrassment by stepping up to the mike.

Couple of questions for John: I know that the majority of older Bandstands from pre-1976 were the ones found by Ron Furmanak at the university where ABC was donating the 2-inches as tape stock. What I'm curious about is what exists on Where The Action Is as well as Happening. WTAI aired off of videotape but I have never seen any footage from that show other than from crappy kines. Do any episodes exist on tape from the show are is it all kines? And how many of the 500+ shows survive? Were those ever transferred to 3/4 or Beta or are they still sitting on film? I know that the Supremes performance on WTAI is on video tape. It's on one of the best of VHS's.

I can answer that. The Supremes clip is from the un-aired Action pilot episode. I do know that there are 4 clips of the Animals that exist from video (not kine) and I have seen brief snippets of the Raiders on Action from video but no idea which episodes they are from.

They sure did! The Cryin' Shames (not to be confused with Illinois' CRYAN SHAMES) did appear on Where The Action Is on June 30, 1966 and did "What's News, Pussycat" (NOT the Tom Jones song) and they also did The Drifters song "Please Stay". The clips still exist!
