U-matic, Philips cassettes--all the same. Low band recordings just to view.

just to let everyone know, Rob Moss now has the cassette, he'll be playing it next week sometime & willlet us know what's on it. He's already said that he will play it right to the end in case there's anything interesting on it after the main recording.

Oh, I'd have thought umatic or something. U-matic certainly was used for low-band viewing copies, but it was a professional format and each machine had a professional price tag. Naturally, it was much cheaper to put domestic machines (initially the likes of the CV2000 or Shibaden, later the N1500, N1700 and finally VHS) into people's offices.

Any news yet? It's beginning to sound a bit ominous...

no, not ominous at all. Rob is very busy at the moment & will get back to me when he has the chance to look through the tape.

The quality of the Philips N1500 format(introduced in 1971/2) was really quite good-luminance and bandwidth;(slightly better than early vhs)-- the N1700(called L.P.) was introduced later ,being compatible with the same cassettes--but ran at half the speed, thus doubling the length of the cassettes eg. SCOTCH VCR60 (L.P 120) if you tried an N1500 recorded tape in an N1700 machine, it would play at double speed and sound!! ianj

Sorry folks - rest assured I am on the case, but as I have explained to Gary, things have been very fraught lately - death in the family, coupled with University deadlines, plus wife going through Ofsted inspection. Add this to toddler who doesn't like going to bed much before 9pm, and you can see why I've not yet delivered the goods! In fact it's amazing I have any hair left... I'll keep you posted, Gary - sorry mate!

For goodness sake, constantly asking 'any word yet?' is not going to make things go any faster! Have some patience - Rob clearly has more on in his life than looking at one tape at the moment and I'm sure this forum will be the first place any findings are posted... Stuart
