Come and Get It colour had been mentioned to the BBC by me (a bit biased, as Badfinger are a favourite of mine), and when I say mentioned, it was SPECIFICALLY the colourized version that was mentioned.
I am guessing that the BBC aren't going to take my idea of a 'rare and discovered' TOTP on board.
What I will do is publish the list of the 25 songs I recommended that they show. I'll do this on Wednesday. They've already shown Bad Company's Can't Get Enough since my list was put over, which, frankly was the easiest to find.
The gent at BBC Four I saw, already thought the best idea was to slip rarities in on occasion within the TOTP2 shows. I disagreed - to the point of arguing, politely, yet firmly - probably didn't do me any favours whatsoever - about this.I thought, following the success of the Jean Genie's showing, that the ensuing publicity meant huge ratings, and the same would occur with 25 rare tracks. The 25 I recommended were generally well-known to TOTP collectors, and my brief was compile something without any existing broadcast performances (meaning on the BBC), also no Pans People, no promos, no second performances (so there goes the 'Hitler tash' version of Blockbuster), and also an eye on performances that might attract the viewing public. Therefore, when you do get to see the list of recommendations, although there is a lot of balance in terms of genre and years, there's more well-known names than perhaps a list chosen by 25 members of the Forum would expect, and most songs were big hits - i.e at least top 20.
Like I said, I'll publish this Wednesday.
Even if the prospective show won't happen, I do think my regular petitioning (probably more like harassment!) of the BBC MAY HAVE helped get some rare clips shown on the BBC.

A pat on the back Ray for all your hard work, the showing of Badfinger's 'Come & Get it' was the highlight for me of the series, and in colour!
Ham & Evans (Badfinger) wrote 'Without You', which was a huge worldwide hit for Harry Nilsson during 1972, sadly they both committed suicide by hanging themselves. Ham in 1975 & Evans (who never got over Ham's death) in 1983.

Thrilled to say that, following advance adverse comments on here about the new series of TOTP2, I haven't bothered to watch any of them ... and now everyone is saying how great the shows are?? Grrrr.... mind you, if the uninterested and sarcastically awful Mark Radcliffe (corrected, apologies to the other guy) is still doing the voice-overs, then I'll continue to avoid them : I find him 1000 times more irritating than Steve Wright ever was.

I wouldn't say you missed that much Dale. It was indeed great to see the colour clip of Badfinger, I think that's the first time it's been screened like that in it's original aspect ratio. The Arte channel showed this awhile ago but cropped it. But Mark Radcliffe ruins every single show for me, he constantly talks over the start of tracks, even when the artists is singing. It's just stupid! Long live BBC4's re-runs and I've enjoyed 'Sounds Of the Seventies 2' far more. I'm surprised so many are happy seeing 90's clips repeated, they don't thrill me too much to be honest, each to their own though.

I remember back in around 1993 the BBC showed a series called "Sounds of the 70's" in which the first episode was specifically for (unsurprisingly) 1970, and they showed the colour film of "Come and get it". If I remember right they also had colour films of "Black Night" and they played "When I'm dead and gone" over the closing credits. I might still have these on VHS somewhere actually, but that was a wonderful episode.

It is annoying to have some bozo talking over the tracks that's where an audio overdub in neccessary. I find the captions more annoying but if they show goodies such as Badfinger then I'll take the captions anyday. ;D www.youtube.com/watch?v=STllzgV_AI4www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnK4DeFQONs

By the way - very slightly off topic, this is more suited to a Popscene or Poptastic or Facebook page than here, but....it is related. if anyone wants to hazard a guess of the 25 tracks (excepting Bad Company) that I proposed the BBC show before I post it on Wednesday, feel free to - Laurence excepting, as I did send him the list.
I'll publish it here on Wednesday.
In the months previous to May I badgered the BBC a fair bit; they received details of every unseen-since-breoadcast TOTP performance known to be in existence for definite, and all episodes that exist in full (performances, I realize a few are mute when iot comes to links) as well.
During the meeting I had, I viewed a few performances on youtube with the Executive Producer, to show him that the quality - even in low-res - was watchable.
Anyway, feel free to make some guesses....

It included the following TOTP performances: EDISON LIGHTHOUSE -"Love Grows" (0.42-1.47) B&W BADFINGER -"Come And Get It" (2.23-2.41) (3.02-3.26) COL TEMPTATIONS -"Can't Get Next To You" (4.17-5.20) B&W JETHRO TULL -"Witches Promise" (6.06-6.56) (10.18-10.45) COL FREE - "All Right Now" (19.55-20.26) (20.52-21.09) (21.27-22.03) COL DEEP PURPLE -"Black Night" (26.10-26.50) (27.02-27.14) COL No footage of Badfinger was used in the 10-part SOUNDS OF THE SEVENTIES from 1993. :-(

I would hope The New Seekers - Circles would be included. I think this is the episode recovered from BBC Glasgow, they have shown The Move - California Man on TOTP2 before and was in very good condition so I wonder why The New Seekers hasn't been shown.
22-6-72: Presenter: Ed Stewart (Start missing)
(8) THE SWEET – Little Willy (crowd dancing) (and charts) (6) GARY GLITTER – Rock And Roll (Part 2) (24) ELVIS PRESLEY – An American Trilogy (video) (43) ARGENT – Tragedy (20) FREE – Little Bit Of Love (danced to by Pan’s People) (21) THE NEW SEEKERS – Circles (NEW) DANA – Crossword Puzzle (7) THE MOVE – California Man (1) DON McLEAN – Vincent (video) (25) B. BUMBLE & THE STINGERS – Nut Rocker (crowd dancing) (and credits) >> This episode exists, minus The Sweet, Gary Glitter and the first part of Elvis Presley.

I had to withdraw it. Sorry. Long story. But I'll admit the Shadows was on there, I think everyone worked that out.
