kind of depressing that only 5 people on the bus are still living!

Does that include Spencer Davis? He's still around and performing!
Pleased to hear about the documentary. A restored DVD (and Blu-ray?) release of the film will be very nice too. Been a long wait for this. Let's keep fingers crossed for some nice extras (in the form of unused rushes).

Whilst Spencer is still with us and is seen in the film, waving from the crowd outside the coach, he didn't actually travel on the coach. He was on holiday in Devon at the time so went along to meet up with them for a couple of days.
One of the survivors will be Mike McCartney since he was definately long for the ride and seen throughout the film in the background. I'm guessing the other two will be Nicola Hale - Little Nicola and Alexis Mardas, the infamous "Magic Alex."
AFAIK, most of, if not all the raw footage exists of MMT so unused scenes should be there and I hope we'll get to see some of them on a DVD. Two sequences in particular deserve to be seen - a song performed by Ivor Cutler and the insert filmed by Traffic for "Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush" so the potential for interesting extras should be good, but then again, given how Apple tends to work, I'm not gonna hold my breath either.

This sounds great. When I first saw this post, I was wondering if 'Little (I Am The Walrus... No You're Not!) Nicola' had shuffled off this mortal coil.
I'm sure they'll wheel out Victor Spinetti too, although he wasn't on the bus. His anecdotes were quite interesting on the DVD documentary release that was all about this film a few years back.

Yes, anyone who took part in the film will be valued for their reminiscences. I went to see Victor Spinetti doing his one-man show at the Edinburgh Festival a few years ago and he was very engaging. He also briefly recreated his contribution to MMT in it!

I think you'll find Freda "fan club" Kelly is there as well. 5 people still alive from the trip seems rather strange - I dare say some of the production personnel are still around- and they were all on the bus. It's heartening that Apple still have all the rushes to the feature. Lennon's directing the girls around a Newquay swimming pool, the famous lunch sequence and the fish and chip scene are all eagerly anticipated. Hopefully this will prompt a major outpouring from the Apple archives - although as said before- I won't hold my breath!

What about the surviving members of the Bonzos, surely they are going to be asked their memories of being in the film.

There are far more than five people who were in the cast alive. Several years ago, there was a contemplated DVD release and an interview with Victor Spinetti had been filmed.
I'm not entirely sure if my observations about the 'Flying' sequence (re the Kubrick shots, because they are Kubrick outtakes, no, REALLY) have been mentioned before.
There is some debate between Beatle-anal retentives (hello, I'm one....) in regard to WHICH Kubrick film they came from. I am firmly on the side of Dr Strangelove, not 2001.
Basically, the Beatles used some Kubrick outtakes for this sequence in their film.

wasn't there a documentary on the making of MMT vaguely recently? Spinetti was interviewed plus people who lived near where they filming. I thought it a very 'thin' programme, would have made a decent little 'featurette' within another programme instead

When you look up the MMT cast on the imdb website , there really isn't many of them left , so sad really . After reading this thread i thought i'd sit down and watch it again and i must say i really enjoyed it , more than i did do the first time round.

B.t.w., I don't know if anyone ever noticed it, but I'm pretty sure that in some of the inserted "fisheye" views in the upper left hand corner at the end of the "I Am The Walrus" sequence in the film, show the the Fabs eating in that Fish 'n' Chips shop.

You are indeed right! - Hopefully we'll get a full screen of them in the release. It makes me think that the illustrator of the accompanying EP booklet got to see a rough cut of the film- as there are several sequences NOT in the finished product. I haven't been this excited by a DVD release in years!
