The BBC just showed a clip of the Osmonds on Breakfast time at 7.25a.m. The clip is the Crazy Horses TOTP 1973 B/w with a hint of colour ( is this the Kenny Everett hosted edition with The Strawbs etc) If the BBC are willing to use this "broadcast quality" clip for the news during peaktime viewing then why not show other clips from this show, the quality looked fine.

There is a slight movement on what is ok to broadcast and what is not from the BBC. A good quality tape with colour 'wash-out' seems to be ok for TOTP2 in future, as does a very good quality domestic recording. This, I have, from the horse's mouth, so to speak. Certainly a darn sight more likely than paying ZDF for copies of their tapes to broadcast.

Damn...I had to record Daybreak on ITV for my other half this morning. Wish I'd recorded BBC1 instead. So am I right in thinking this is a different performance to the usual one we see time and time again? Or is it a b/w version of that great clip I keep on mentioning of them wearing their black Elvis outfits with matching chokers? Or do three different performances exist somewhere in the BBC of 'Crazy Horses'?

Why does the caption that appears over it say 1974?

Probably because BBC News consulted the TOTP2 team who are well versed in giving incorrect dates!

What's the big deal? A b&w version of the familiar colour clip we've seen countless times. Why can't anyone locate the unique performance seen on the 'We Are Family' documentary. Nobody seems bothered about that at all?

Thanks for that Gary. Does that mean less than a minute of it exists or is the full performance on the EX-LIB VT you mention? And what exactly does EX-LIB VT mean? I'd love this performance to be found complete.

More archive clips from BBC Breakfast news this morning! Both The Four Tops and The Temptations were live in the studio so, of course, they had to dig out some old footage to remind us of how they looked back in the sixties. First up was The Four Tops and I Can't Help Myself, which Bill Turnbull introduced as being from 1965: Hmmm... this was used as the opening clip on TOTP2: Boybands the other week and it was dated 1970. Any idea which show it originally came from? Was it used on one of the wiped TOTP episodes as the caption states? Next up, The Temptations from 1966. I guess this isn't a BBC clip as it's credited to Universal, although it does look like a studio-based music show performance. Anyone know where it's from?

Dunno about the Temptations, but the Four Tops performance is from the Julie Felix Show, 12-4-1970. The song is from 1965 of course, maybe that's why that year was mentioned.
