The B.F.I. have the two episodes known to exist. I'd really love to see these myself as I remember the series from the '60s. When I saw the thread title, I got hopeful for a moment that someone had discovered another episode!

Just on the edges of my memory as a kid. For some reason I mentally associate it with a thing called Orlando ('Orlando' in the title anyway) with Sam Kydd. Crane was Patrick Allen, yes?
Perhaps they were both 9pm slots on ITV ?
And while I'm back in primary school, does anyone remember a drama series about Queen Victoria ? It would be about the same time, and all I can remember is that the advert break picture board was the heads side of an old penny [Queen Victoria obviously!] I always think it's a terrible shame that nobody born after 1972 can experience the flights of imagination possible when you got an old penny in your hand. I once got a Queen Victoria 'godless' florin in my change (one for all you numismatists out there) and managed to lose it a few days later.

Blimey i just about remember this one ,not sure how good it was, but if my memory serves me well, i think Sam Kydd was actually in the show playing a friend of Crane called Orlando , so the series Orlando probably came from this character.Talking about Orlando i remember watching this as a kid i suppose there all missing .

Sam Kydd always come across as a nice guy. His autobiography,'For you,the war is Over' about his 6 years as a prisoner of war,is a great read.

Thanks Dave. I think one adventure (about 5 or 6 eps) of Orlando survives and its the one with Ben Kingsley in as guest villian/hero -I think?
Front theme tune here (cannot remember what the end credits tune was called? but it was much lighter)
Found its way across the Atlantic and was also used in the Spiderman animation series

Orlando was a character in Crane who spun off into his own series (which was in a children's slot although the parent series was not). Sounds Incorporated performed the theme as used in series 3 of Crane (each series had different title music). The slot I remember it most in was for series 3 at 8pm on (I think) Monday evenings (at least in the London area).
I believe most (all?) of a six-parter is all that exists of Orlando. It's one of the things i'd most like to see again. I wish someone would take it upon themselves to release all that remains of Rediffusion's output, in fact!

Well, my memories were on the right lines, even if a bit off-beam. I challenge myself to try and avoid using Google for this sort of thing !

It's horrible the way that even Freewheelers-which ran for years-went off the radar. When I want to pull rank on memories I mention Hattie Jacques in (as?) the children's series Miss Adventure.I was convinced Sam Kydd was in that, but it seems not.

"Miss Adventure" doesn't really come across as a children's show. That's only on the strength of one episode, mind.
