I guess we'll know when the 2012 recoveries list is unveiled (a long time to wait yet though!). I hadn't heard of this programme before. When was it made?

Good question Laurence - now bear in mind it was made FOR ABC by the Rank Organization - hence the colour print - the eBay vendor states 1963. My web research indicates a tx date of 18/02/1962, with a repeat - at least by Thames(!) 04/11/1968, at 11.25pm!

Thanks Ray. Very interesting to know. A colour ABC programme made for Rank yet also having a broadcast date.

Thanks Ray. Very interesting to know. A colour ABC programme made for Rank yet also having a broadcast date. it was originally an ABC Weekend show going out on Sunday nights 1961-62 . I think the Rank bit is an after thought ?It was probably picked by them later? In those days, one of the only ways you could see a film for private use (such as in a school or org) was from hiring from the famous annual Rank 16mm catalogue. Rank collected a fair few TV programmes for hire out and must have took a punt on this that religious orgs would want it?

I presume Carlton bought the Rank catalogue in the 90's?

It exists at Studio Canal.
But we do know who bought the print just as a backup plan!

It's an interesting idea that some progs. might have been 'hiding in plain sight' in a catalogue, ignored because of their nature and the way they were marketed. Is there any easy way of viewing the Rank catalogues? Really one a year? And the ones who could actually run cine films were in the minority. No wonder there were thriving second-hand and under-the-radar markets.

Did I miss a post or is this thread purposefully vague?

It appears the eBay listing portion of the thread about the show in question has been deleted, so it looks like we are commenting about nothing!

So what show are we talking about, then?

A bid for an ABC show on eBay, which actually does exist in full at Canal Plus....

Yes I tried to delete the whole thread as appeared irrelevant and seemed to be going nowhere. Ended up with just deleting a post. Apologies
Ray as you know about it - can you confirm Canal has it in colour? as there were obviously many versions in B/W at the time. 39 episodes I believe?

I'll try to find out. Canal is one of those archives I would so love to look through - and it's not online! Grrr! Incidentally, I am trying to get a yay or a nay on two ABC shows that Thames (or rather Fremantle) state they have - trouble again here is that there's not an easy way to tell. Their catalogue (in terms of early pre-franchise stuff) sometimes lists programmes that they have only stills from (Sexton Blake, in one case) or can mislead (Anita in Jumbleland, for example)

Just got a reply - spookily - from Fremantle, worth reading (slightly edited to keep anonymity of staff)
""I am just enquiring about two Thames shows in your catalogue, and if you have them:-
Daft as a Brush 6806 Vacant Lot 130638
Please let me know if these exist.
Many thanks,
Ray Langstone.""
""Dear Ray,
Thanks for your enquiry.
I'm afraid these programmes are not our copyright, as they are old ABC programmes so I cannot help you in obtaining copies.""
