Hi all, just watching the new Invasion of the Dinosaurs DVD (it's not due out till tomozza!) great to see Part One in colour for the first time!! It's far from perfect but I'm impressed none the less! Great work by the Restoration Team!, judging by the quality of the recovered colour gives an insight to the difficulties associated with recolouring The Ambassadors of Death and The Mind of Evil. Looking forward to those two even more now!! Amazing to think that just a few years ago this was pretty much impossible to achieve- Remarkable.

Well worth the wait. Shame there wasn't a budget to do a similar restoration as was done with Planet of the Daleks Episode 3. I'm assuming recolouring frame by frame with a computer has become prohibitively expensive again. I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet but some of the "artifacts" from the colour recovery process make for interesting viewing!

Yes, it's a shame that (from the impression I can gather from Wiped!) the colour quality on all the B&W-only Pertwee episodes could be even better if the BBC had the budget to combine the chroma dot results with an original recolourisation by Legend Films, as done on 'Planet of the Daleks' 3. (Almost) fully recolourising these episodes isn't impossible - just impractical! I hope that eventually they will be restored to their full former glory. I expect that when it comes to 'The Mind of Evil' 1, the BBC will send it off to Legend Films for a one-off from-scratch recolourisation using the chroma dot recolourisations of the other episodes as a reference point... at least, I hope so! All the same, it'll be great to see 'Invasion of the Dinosaurs' 1 finally restored to colour at last - a big thanks to all those on the Restoration Team for doing yet another great job! You're the best, guys! ;D

I've now watched my copy (wooooooo!). Maybe it's elsewhere on here, but I'd be grateul if someone can explain what colour recovery/colourisation has gone on with episode one, and why this is of poorer quality than other efforts? (I am in no way complaining!!)

(I am in no way complaining!!) I haven't seen it yet but I think it's a question of the quality of the colour information (accidentally) captured in the b&w telerecording.

As far as I am aware the chroma dot recovery process was used on this episode, as it is/will be on all of the Pertwee's except for 'Mind of Evil' 1. As for the quality, the amount of information that can be attained from the chroma dots can be somewhat patchy, leading to varying results. Remember, they weren't supposed to be there in the first place - though thankfully, technicians tended to ignore the rules! (of applying the chroma dot filter) The best people to answer this question would be members of the Restoration Team themselves, but I hope this helps. My memory fails me - did we have an off-air colour recording of 'Invasion' 1? If so, then this may also have been used in the colour recovery/restoration process, but I'm pretty sure that there wasn't one for this story. No, I've just checked Wiped! - the only copy we have of Episode 1 is the 16mm black-and-white film positive. Ah well... A slightly random question - are the (B&W) location sequences from Episode 1, its deleted scene (a milkman being attacked by a mystery beast) and/or the A and B roll film sequences from Part Five on the DVD? It would be great if they had been included as a special feature.

(I am in no way complaining!!) Watch this - www.youtube.com/watch?v=CjK-b4x9ZmQThe quality of the recovery is down to the quality of the source material. Original b/w telerecording negatives work best, but Invasion of the Dinosaurs #1 is only a positive film print, and one that's a little soft down one side.

Simon, that would be in violation of copyright and most probably illegal. What would be the point in 2|Entertain charging us for the DVDs when we could watch the whole, un-interrupted episode for free online? If someone did upload it then it would most likely be taken down pretty speedily. It's possible that there may be some clips floating around though, but finding the whole episode on YouTube is out of the question. You must have patience, my freind I'm sure your copy will arrive soon enough
