Does anyone know why we have never had a comprehensive box set of the radio adaptations of Steptoe & Son? Is there any chance we will?

I Have a reel to reel tape recorded from the Live Feed of the Royal Variety Show November 4, 1963. I believe Steptoe & Son play and it is master audio quality recorded with alligator clips to the antenna.

Collections that were recorded off air in the 1960s are golden.Having the foresight to record tv and radio airchecks in the 1960s was very fortutious.
It appears that the video exists of the beatles segment on youtube. Would be cool if the whole thing exists in video but of course i have no way of knowing.
Curious what other original airchecks you might have.

Curious what other original airchecks you might have. Well on youtube there is a "video" of the Beatles Performance, but it is actually a 16mm Kinescope of the live broadcast. Audio is pretty good, but Apple had to re-master the audio to get something nice. The live feed off air tape I have is 100% better quality than what appears on the Beatles Anthology and all those youtube clips. I have many other air checks and TV recordings from the United States and UK. Best Regards, Robert

Does anyone know why we have never had a comprehensive box set of the radio adaptations of Steptoe & Son? Is there any chance we will? I taped all those radio versions in the 70s they used to be on a Sunday afternoon, but I gave the tapes away to someone ! Itwould be nice to get a box set of them if they are ever to be put out. If I remember correctly these were recorded in the mid 70s so the Steptoe saga didnt really end in 1974, as it did on tv.

Were the radio shows originals storylines or just adaptations of the TV scripts?

52 radio shows were made, all of which were adaptations of the TV scripts. The last one was broadcast Boxing Day 1976.

I'd still like to know why BBC Audio hasn't done boxed sets of these a la Round The Horne, Hancock, etc. as there MUST be a market surely?

All of the radio episodes do survive in the BBC archives, judging by the repeats on Radio 7 over the years. The only episode I can't immediately trace in my notes is s04e04, 'A Box in Town', but I seem to recall hearing it repeated on the radio on at least one occasion in the last five years. Repeats of Steptoe are currently running on BBC radio. To record the show from BBC iplayer, check out this link - beebotron.org/phorum/read.php?17,15259

But I come back to my original question - why haven't the Steptoe & Son radio episodes been released as a box set or sets as with Dad's Army?
Surely if Audio Go can do on-going sets of The Navy Lark & The Goons it can stretch to Steptoe & Son?

Perhaps they just think there isn't a big enough market to warrant getting together a whole boxed set?

Ah... 1967 ! I always assumed that because I taped all the Steptoes off radio in the 70s I thought that they were made then ?
