Great photo! I'm sure I used to have a poster from this set of photos. Interesting that Ritchie doesn't have his usual strat.

Just out of curiosity does anyone know when the Deep Purple performance of Fireball was actually taped that is on the 16/12/1971 Top of the Pops? The only reason is that from 06/12 to 21/12/1971 they were in Montreux recording Machine Head.

I would dearly love to see this above pictured Deep Purple performance of "Fireball".
However, there were these two editions of Top Of the Pops recovered on EX-BBC N1500 tapes. These were included as part of the 2008 Raiders Of the Lost Archives Recovery List by the way. Have yet to receive a showing amazingly. As am really left wanting to see John Knogos, the two performances of "Cuz I Luv You" by SLADE, and the Disc clip for Deep Purple " Fireball" :

I had forgotten about those two recoverd editions Lance.
I wonder why they haven't been shown at any of the KAL music events?
Does anyone know the reason for this?

I'd particularly like to see those two TOTP editions as well. Hopefully they'll get an airing at some point; i'm surprised clips at least weren't utilised at an MBW at the time of their recovery as they are important items.

The Purple still looks like their Black Night appearance of 1970 - but it is a long time since I have seen either this or the Fireball appearance. Have both on a VHS comp back at my parents' house!

that picture is definitely from late 1971 as at the time of "Black Night" on TOTP the 'cage' set was still being used. The backdrop on that day was a psychedlic affair.

Is there a reason why we have not seen these two editions from 1971? i am puzzled that when footage is found in most cases we never get to see them.anyone know why/ Thank goodness for great people like Mr Henshall who ensured we saw Jean Genie.I guess only he and Chris perry will know what footage is on his tapes. It would be soo god if he had many missing top of the pops editions particularly from 1973 such a great year for music when it became fun again as Roy wood once said.Any find though would be great.
