My listing for that day is as follows:
November-16 1972 Top Of The Pops BBC U.K. Presented by Jimmy Savile. Blue Mink - Stay With Me; Chuck Berry - My Ding-A-Ling (Repeat); Gilbert O'Sullivan - Clair; Gladys Knight - Help Me Make It Through The Night; Hot Chocolate - You'll Always Be A Friend; Jackson 5 - Lookin' Through The Windows (Disc); Neil Sedaka - Oh Carol (Disc); Osmonds - Crazy Horses; Rod Stewart - Angel; Slade - Gudbuy T'jane (Promo); Strawbs - Lay Down; The Shangri-Las - Leader Of The Pack (Promo).
The Slade footage is obviously not in the TOTP studio so may well be the promo listed

slade is clearly on film and cuts to the studio audience, I'd agree with the promo hypothesis

That clip is not from 16/11/1972. Although the promo part is the same promo that was shown on that edition.
unless i'm mistaken the background in the audience scenes are from 1974 (rainbow set).
If the audience part is genuine, then this clip may be from either 23/11/72 or 7/12/72.
by the way, 'Blue Mink - Stay With Me' is also not part of that show.

Thanks for the info about Blue Mink. Paul. What makes you so certain that they were not part of the show?

Thanks for the info about Blue Mink. Paul. What makes you so certain that they were not part of the show? People that have seen the show have confirmed that they are not performing on it.

Where does the clip actually come from then? Gary Jordan put the clip together. The promo is the official Slade pomo, shown on that edition. The crowd shots? You'd have to ask Gary!

i did this and made other promos to show the band what can be done as they and their management ain't got a clue the audience shots come (as rightly pointed out by paul) from one of the missing 74 editions as just uploading the black and white promo version would have been boring and besides the colour promo is already on the tube this edition does exist in the archive but has never been seen and esp the black and white promo hope that clears up any confusion

Is it not at the BBC then? A copy has turned up online with some basic colour information coming through on it (as with The Strawbs' Lay Down from the same period, which resides at the BBC in the same way), so i'd guess it's in the archives. But in which edition if it isn't actually part of the 16/11/72 show - unless it's a clip only. So much curious stuff with the TOTP archive!

Have you a reference for the clip at all, Laurence?
