Hi all,
A few weeks ago Dick Fiddy alluded to a potential recovery of one or more 'Ready Steady Go' episodes. This was a lead I'd been chasing for the past two years with the help Radio Nottingham presenter John Holmes.
Finally, we looked at three films today. Two were nothing of any significance, but the third was a complete season 2 edition from 1964. Dick Fiddy confirmed though that it is indeed a surviving edition, which was a slight disappointment. Still, it was very interesting going through the episode which was an original print from the neg.
For those of you interested, the film included Marvin Gaye, The Plebs, The Zephyrs, Jerry Lee Lewis and The Rolling Stones. There were a couple of other artists I can't recall.
It's a shame it wasn't a new one, but it was fascinating looking through it. I'll be announcing a new non music recovery on December 3rd.
Regards,
Paul

Thank You Very much Paul,Dick, and all involved here in this recovery prospect. I agree, however does still show that items like this can sill be sourced in regards.
Very interested of course to hear of the non- music recovery!!
Excellent work all around here again! Is interesting, as like the Doctor Who print found earlier was an existing edition. Again, does show that things-items are still out there. Just a matter of time and perseverance.
Thank You Again for the info here!
Cheers, Lance.

My gut feeling was that it was going to be an existing Beatles one. Is the print better in quality than the on currently at the bfi? Here's the line up. POP MUSIC. Keith Fordyce and Cathy McGowan introduce a complete edition of the television pop programme. Reel 1. Keith Fordyce introduces The Plebs, who sings "Baby I'm going to leave you" (98). Cathy McGowan introduces Paul Williams, who sings his first solo number "Gin House Blues" (188). Fordyce introduces The Zephyrs who sing "Wonder What I'm Gonna Do" (198-289). McGowan introduces Marvin Gaye, who sings "Can I get a witness" (293-394). Reel 2. "Gone, Gone, Gone" by the Everley Brothers can be heard on record. Fordyce gives a run down of the current hit parade: at 3 are the Rockin' Berries, at 1 is "baby Love" by The Supremes (60). Fordyce introduces Simon Scott, who sings "My Baby's got soul" (70-162). McGowan introduces Patrick Kerr who demonstrates a new dance step to a record of Georgie Fame singing "Yeah, Yeah" (169-215). McGowan introduces Kenny Lynch who sings "My own two feet" (310). Fordyce introduces Jerry Lee Lewis, backed by The Plebs, who sings "High Heeled Sneakers" and "Whole lotta shakin' going on" (351-542). Reel 3. Marvin Gaye sings "How sweet it is to be loved by you" (100). Fordyce introduces Them, who sing "Baby, please don't go" (116-220). Samantha Jones sings "All because of you" (315). McGowan introduces The Rolling Stones, who perform "Off the hook". Fordyce talks to Brian Jones and Mick Jagger. The Rolling Stones perform "Little red rooster" (479) and "Around is around" (668). Credits. Fade into Rediffusion sign (678ft).

Is the print better in quality than the on currently at the bfi? Hi Kevin, It's beginning to look as if this is the original print and all subsequent copies are of this. The film is damaged, although I don't know if this was before or after other copies were made, but there's a deep tramline scratch on the emulsion side on the extreme edge of frame. Sometimes it's not too bad but at its worst, the emulsion is completely gone. That said, it has a lovely grey scale. The sound of course will be direct from the sound neg, so it may be an improvement. I'm liaising with Dick about comparing prints. Paul
