That's a great shame if true. We need more of these sorts of releases rather than less! Amazing that after more than 40 years, we still can't get a chance to see so much of the material that sits in the vaults!

I found comment on Reelin' In The Years page on facebook about Pretty Things DVD:
"We're working on the Pretty Things. Hopefully early next year. "
It would be a shame cancel this release, Pretty Things are very important band for the 60's. Much better than Hollies, yes :-))

A bit O/T, but Keith Badman has just let me know that the new DVD release, Kinks Kollekted (sic) features complete versions of both Autumn Almanac and Wonderboy from TOTP in good quality. Not sure if anyone on the Forum knew this, but it was certainly news to me!

That one is news to me as I didn't even know there was a Kinks DVD set coming up! Any idea of who is producing this and further info on contents, Ray? The only thing that turns me off buying DVDs of classic '60s bands is if they include many of the classic hits performed far more recently by a much older group! If they stick to all numbers being reasonably contemporary to the time of them being hits, then they've always got a certain purchase with me!

Thanks for those details, Paul. I'm pleased that both releases concentrate on the cream of both bands' best years (and not much from the mediocre later periods). The interesting part though will be to find out where all these performances are sourced from!
Both look like strong track listings and the only bitter disappointment for me is the lack of the two Julie Felix tracks on the Kinks set. That's a real drag. Otherwise it looks to be a definitive set.

I Am with you Laurence. That is a real shame they do not have Last of The Steam Powered Trains and Picture Book from Julie Felix featured on this release. Still, excited that the previously mentioned TOTP performances will be among the batch of clips on this release. Thanks as well to Paul, for the in-depth track-list for this upcoming release. I am with you again Laurence, in if the release possesses more cleaned and polished ( Not the same ol' stuff have seen time and again ) material, is a shure fire purchase with me as well. Was really hoping this would include the Julie Felix tracks. Wondering if they considered the off screen 8mm RSG Hollies and Kinks material I found on YT ? Know features short bits of footage, would think this would make for a most interesting feature on a perspective Kinks or Hollies release? As the original film reel was auctioned off, and the only copy now resides on YT ( have seen other posters copies of this material as well of late by the way ) may not be in the cards, sadly there. Fingers crossed this may be included on a future release. Am quite excited by the news that Wonderboy ( 68' TOTP ) and Autumn Almanac ( 66' BFI featured, TOTP ) will be included on this release however. A real treat to be shure in being able to officially purchase, and see this material in restored quality, should be fun!!
Cheers, Lance.

Ah, is it going to come out on Region 2, Paul? I might hold off for now then as it'll just be NTSC VT conversions of some of the PAL material.

has anyone seen the kinks dvd, where are the performances sourced? I'd bet B eat Beat Beat, Beat Club and Totp with Starsruck and Dead End Street being promos, I hope I'm wrong and there are more interesting sources but hey it's long overdue and a start

Am quite excited by the news that Wonderboy ( 68' TOTP ) and Autumn Almanac ( 66' BFI featured, TOTP ) will be included on this release however. Cheers, Lance. These two performances have been available on the "Testament of the Sixties" DVD box set for quite some time, A Dutch BR Universal NL release, strangely the audio is still in mono, unusual for a BR release as overdubbing would of been a doddle. Reference the Kinks Kollekted DVD I cannot confirm this but I have read: --the audio from the live and mimed clips has been replaced with the familiar recorded audio (LPs, CDs) --other minor editing was done on some clips --overall quality is not clean and pristine, though not bad either, more like good --it's presented in widescreen format, thus the tops and bottoms of the clips have been cut off The Reeling back the Years DVDs have wonderful overdubbed soundtracks they have done a magnificent job so far. And as for "Pretty Things are much better than Hollies" I beg to differ. Pretty Things had one top 20 hit, the Hollies have had numerous. The Hollies were a much more successful outfit and their songs are known all over the world www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDWsaQS3ZQI

Thanks Paul. If it's a U.S. import though, surely it'll be NTSC / region 1 most likely and not the same as Europe. A European release would most likely be PAL. I would be interested in hearing what anyone that buys the Kinks set thinks of it. If it's true about letterboxing and dubbing records over live clips (over mimed ones is fine), then I won't be buying anyway.

It will probably be region free NTSC which seems to be the latest method by many of these company's, pure laziness, just so they don't have to produce two different formats (i.e Pal for Europe & NTSC for the U.S.A). DVD players in Europe will play both formats whereas NTSC players won't play PAL DVDs.
Beat Beat Beat, OMD, Yazoo are just three examples of DVDs which have been released in the region free NTSC format and any unnecessary encoding reduces the video quality. Changing the original aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9 is criminal, I have an officially released Pink Floyd DVD where this has been done on the promos 'Arnold Layne' and 'Scarecrow' which is ridiculous.
At least the 'Reeling back the Years' DVDs are in the PAL 4:3 format. ;D

King Midas In Reverse where does that come from ? I Hope i'm not getting excited for nothing here , is this really on the Hollies dvd or is it a mistake ? The only show as far as i know it was performed on was TOTP which as we know is missing .
