Early this year, I bought some clips of film that I thought could be missing of eBay. The picture uploaded with the items looked like an from from the title sequence of LATE NIGHT HORROR www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfyJAeVQA0o. The picture was frame from some credits saying "DIRECTED BY PADDY RUSSELL". I thought that the item could be an episode from the series as Paddy Russell directed two episodes. I did some research into the series (starting a lead on this site) and discovered that only one episode existed and was in private hands, no copy exists in the archives. This episode was directed by Paddy Russell, so I thought it could be being sold (along with other BBC items that I didn't bid on) without the collector knowing its value. I won the bid, but sadly it only was the titles and a brief section of end credits (I contacted the seller asking if they had the rest but they said that they didn't), showing the producer and directors name before fading to black (both of these clips were b/w 16mm film). I thought the end credit section could be of a little use because so little exists from the series, so I sent it to Chris Perry at Kalidoscope. I think he made a copy of it, I cant remember, but he posted it back and I still have both clips.
It has only dawned on me today that the clips could be more important than I first thought. I know that the A for andromeda episode returned in 2006 had a section removed from it, and I've heard that other things returned by collectors had bits removed too. What if the collector that had this episode cut these bits off and got rid of them. The seller on eBay said that they bought all their film clips at an auction, and that they only had short clips. I don't know if this helps at all, but if the location of the auction was known, the private collector who owned at one point the whole episode could be traced easier. They could have no knowledge that what they own is missing.
