None of like a hoaxer and I can fully understand suspicion when a new poster claims to have a lead on a possible episode. BUT the way the poster was treated right from the off was just plain nasty. You treated him like something to be scraped off your shoes without hesitation. Even when he came back and said it was already an existant episode, he was still barracked demanding proof that said episode exists. It's no wonder to me that collectors don't come forward when they read how they would be treated as new posters. This site needs new posters from time to time bringing new leads and possibilities. As a long time Who fan myself, I'd love it if more episodes turned up, but some on here, with their blinkered attitudes and clique mentality just harm the search. There are good things going on, and maybe more to find, so how about treating someone with a bit of decency, unless they give cause to to treat them otherwise? You never know something may turn up!

It has nothing to do with blinker attitudes or clique mentality.
Given that Darren Gregory has been on this site in the past few weeks, has set himself up numerous accounts for himself under various false names to give veracity to his own "claims" and that our brand new poster "mrharwood83" writes in *exactly* the same manner as the former Mr Gregory and is making the same sort of claim, it's not hard to put two and two together.
That, to quote your own words, is the cause to treat them differently.

Well, I smell Darren Gregory anyway.
I still think having a standard response to copy and paste to these threads and then not adding anything else is the way to go in all honesty.

Please don't shoot me down for being a new poster. I'm just here as I am a big fan and interested if some episodes are found. I don't know who this DG is and unsure if any new poster is DG or not. Why bother replying if you think this is a hoax? Sure it only starts flame wars that genuine trolls relish on.

My own view is by all means be wary of new posters claiming knowledge of missing material but don't assume something is automatically a hoax. It may in occasional instances mean we pass up the chance of a genuine recovery. Too much jaded cynicism produces no positive result.

...But Then again you guys are more interested in insulting new members i think! All I see is the group being overly cautioned of new members coming in claiming to have leads on lost episodes, etc due to all the hoaxes of late.

Hi all, I started a thread a few months back (Silly Idea perhaps) it was just a question but as the comments progressed I did notice a slight "taking the piss" attitude myself. There was a couple of useful tips but for the most part I find there is a rather proprietary nature to the comments posted by some members. Oh I have been fairly busy with a new addition to the family and I also build and repair electric guitars as a side project so that "Silly Idea" has been put on the back burner so to speak, but rest assured I'm still keen no matter what some people may say. Cheers-(but don't get too merry lol) Ross Mann (see capital letters!)

With DWO's highly publicized Web of Fear debacle and the lost episode hoax by Doctor Who fan Andrew Ainsworthless, people are going to be very pessimistic until a BBC representative like Paul Vanezis or Steve Roberts publicly says something has been found. Fans have been burned too many time to just take something at face value from somebody that just appears out of nowhere.

Fans have been burned too many time to just take something at face value from somebody that just appears out of nowhere. I can understand that sentiment and I'm grateful the value people on the board put in myself and Steve. I should add that over the years we have tried to act as impartial conduits for material to be returned to the rights holders. People that have film own the physical film. They can do with it whatever they like, but we have been successful in persuading many of them to either return the film or loan it to the BBC, often giving up our personal time to ensure material gets back. Whilst we will still both continue to do this, you should know that myself and Steve are leaving the BBC. I'll be the last to go at the end of January. I hope people will still approach us in the same manner as by then we'll be even more impartial! Regards, Paul

Hey Paul, sorry to hear that you two are leaving the BBC, I've been following your careers with a keen interest since the days of the Special Edition of The Five Doctors VHS Box Set. I really enjoyed the Restoration Team Web site, is there any chance this will ever be updated again as I (and I've noticed that many others) really enjoyed reading about the technicalities involved (even if most of it goes over my head lol) great work!!! Cheers- Ross
