Thanks Ray. I'll post this on Popscene if that's OK.

I recall a thread on a forum a few months ago talking about a show broadcast in the early 80s (featuring Adam Faith) on August 1973 - that included Mungo Jerry Alright Alright Alright on TOTP, that may be "mis-filed" too?

Really Chris? Any other info?
Ray Dorset et al performed this on 06/07/73 and 20/07/73. There was a repeat performance 03/08/73. Disc was played 13/07/73.
No problem, Neil.

One point on this is that if some clips were shown on pop quiz in the 80s where did they get the clips from? surely the episodes must survive that they have been taken from? mis filed is what i can guess. any thoughts on this?

It's entirely possible that the clips were copied for one of many reasons; resale to overseas stations, transfer to regions, use in another programme being three key examples.
My reply e-mail from the BBC stated that some Kenny Everett links were also found on this tape, and although it does contain the whole song in its' entirety it is not the whole edition.

To quote Neil Barker from the link below "apparently a TOTP clip of Mungo Jerry's "Alright Alright Alright" was shown during a programme about Adam Faith broadcast on 4/6/85. "Noel Edmonds pres prog looking at the sights & sounds of August '73, the time chosen by this weeks guest Adam Faith as being the turning point in his life, a time when recovering from car crash he got to know his 3yr old daughter." "MUSIC FROM 1973: Gary Glitter - "Leader Of The Gang" (Ex TOTP)(17.0-30) Mungo Jerry - "Alright Alright Alright", both then (ex TOTP) & now (30.00-32.00)" s6.invisionfree.com/popscene/index.php?showtopic=276

Thanks, Chris. This needs looking into as well.
On this one it may be a case of where to start!

that program was 'Time of your Life' wasn't it? I have the Mungo Jerry performance from that show somewhere. I'll try and find it. Re: Pop Quiz clips.... from my 'sometimes dodgy' memory , but didnt Mike Read have a batch of video tapes from his own personnal collection stolen outside the BBC in the early 80's from his car.? I remember at the time he stated that these tapes could never be replaced. So could they have been the source of some of the clips used on Pop Quiz?

Found it and Yes it's from totp However, I think it's 'Long Legged Woman Dressed in Black' with 'Alright Alright Alright' dubbed over it. BBC 'Time of your Life' - Adam Faith.

Could well have been some rare material that went missing if it's true. Just to go back to one puzzling point here: what happened to the programmes these clips were taken from in the '80s after the relevant bits were copied on to 1" (e.g. Stealers Wheel, Mungo Jerry and possibly others)? It seems there must have been at least a few more TOTP existing at that point - I wonder who's got them now?!?

One guidance re: what was "known" in the TOTP archives is the "special shows" and what was included (ie 27/12/73, 9/7/79, 5/5/83, 5/1/84) at those times. If other clips/shows existed they maybe did so outside of the official TOTP archive and perhaps may still do? (ie The 10th Aniversary indicates that they had by then archived the familiar 60s "orphan clips", and the 2 1968 shows, plus 27/12/71, by 83 they had 26/12/67, 27/2/69, 1/2/73, plus started to make use of some of the other early 70s surivivors, by the 20th Aniversary they were boasting performances from 29/1/70, 26/2/70 & 15/11/73) Sadly that Mungo Jerry screenshot does appear to be the LLWDIB performance.

Things are still turning up now. The Bad Company 06/06/74 clip came from a uncatalogued Bob Pratt tape. Bear in mind Bob hid them all over the BBC, and for obvious reasons they weren't catalogues at the time!!!!!!!!

That's true. I suppose it's possible those performances were only clips and not whole shows, their existence purely down to Bob Pratt. It's only now that many Pratt clips are being catalogued properly or even generally known about (e.g. The Kinks on Once More With Felix). So they may not have been lifted from complete TOTP after all, although nothing is ever certain and it's possible they may have simply gone walkies afterwards with current whereabouts unknown.

I am so behind all you wonderful people in the 'intense' knowledge stakes but I try my very best to keep up but can someone explain how the Kinks 'Once more with Felix' clip got onto YouTube? Am I right in thinking that not a lot of Bob Pratt stuff makes it onto YouTube, so if so why this one?
